A rare crossover worth savoring: classic Taiwan character grown in Yunnan’s cool highlands. This lot comes from northwestern Tengchong (Baoshan Prefecture), where second-flush Jin Xuan (TTES #12) leaves are crafted in the Eastern Beauty / 东方美人 (Dong Fang Mei Ren) style. The result sits deliciously between oolong and black tea—lush fruit over warm malt, silky and deeply aromatic.

  • Taiwan cultivar, Yunnan terroir: Jin Xuan’s creamy, fruit-forward personality meets Tengchong’s 1,300 m altitude and wide day–night swings for extra aroma concentration.

  • Second flush for OB style: Later spring leaf suits this processing, bringing natural sweetness and a richer, amber liquor.

  • Balanced like a light black + oolong: Think honeyed stone fruit and baked sugar on top of gentle malt and spice, finishing clean with a lingering hui-gan.

Tasting notes

  • Aroma: Honey, ripe peach/apricot, baked sugar, light florals.

  • Cup: Amber-gold liquor; medium-plus body with a creamy, rounded texture.

  • Flavor: Peach, nectarine, lychee hints; malt and biscuit underneath; soft sweet spice (cinnamon/allspice) toward later steeps.

  • Finish: Long, cooling and sweet, with a returning throat sweetness.

Origin & processing

  • Area: Northwestern Tengchong, Baoshan Prefecture, Yunnan

  • Altitude: ~1,300 m

  • Harvest: Second flush (May)

  • Cultivar: Jin Xuan (TTES #12)

  • Style: Crafted in the Eastern Beauty tradition with medium-high oxidation; gently baked to set the fragrance (no heavy roast).

Note: In the Eastern Beauty tradition, later-spring leaves often develop naturally honeyed aromatics; this lot leans into that profile with a fruit-forward, mellow sweetness.

Brewing guide

(Adjust to taste and water.)

Gongfu (recommended)

  • 95 °C (203 °F)

  • Quick rinse, then 20s • 25s • 30s • 40s… for 6–8 infusions

Western

  • 95 °C (203 °F) for 2–3 minutes

  • Good for 2–3 infusions; extend time slightly on subsequent steeps.

Grandpa style

  • 2g per 300–350 mL (10–12 oz), 90–95 °C, top up as you sip. Smooth, all-day honeyed malt.

Cold brew

  • 8–10 g per 1 L, room-temp water; refrigerate 8-10 hours. Bright, peachy, and ultra-smooth.

Summary:

  • Caffeine: Medium

  • Storage: Airtight, cool, dry, and dark. Enjoy within 18–24 months for peak aromatics.

Definitely worth a try

". . . If you 're either a fan of oriental beauty or if you' re looking for a change from other dark oolongs or lighter black teas. It is a little less tippy than the original ones I've had so far but overall, the resemblance is pretty strong even though it's about half to a third of the price! It holds up very well over many infusions while also being easy to brew and it usually also compels people who haven't tried much in terms of tea or aren' super into it yet. If it wasn't out of stock, I'd buy again for sure!"

Unique

"I’d have to say that this stands out as the most unique tea from YS that I’ve tried because it was so unexpected. The first sip tasted just like skim milk. . I couldn’t believe it! When ordering I intentionally double and triple checked to make sure that I didn’t add the other variety from this same farm that is steamed with milk, yet even then I had to run and check to make sure I didn’t make some kind of mistake. Spending time with it, my pallet has become more familiar with it and the wow factor isn’t as pronounced, but I would describe the flavor as a nutty kind of soy milk flavor, with spice and sweetness and a wonderful floral aroma. It's a lovely tea. While I’d like to always have some of this on hand, of the other teas from this farm, I like the Qing Xin red oolong the most, as it’s right between an oolong and black tea giving you the best of both worlds. Also, the Qing Xin jade oolong is better than the Tie Guan Yin teas I’ve tried. I wish more would grow these Taiwanese cultivars in China, they are distinct!"

Not quite like Taiwan Easter Beauty but still good

"A genuine high end bug bitten Eastern Beauty from Taiwan is probably my favorite tea on earth. As the decades have gone by, those have become harder to find and much, much more expensive. This Chinese grown cultivar is a fine one and reproduces a lot of the flavor notes of medium grade Taiwanese grown versions. Terroir is different in each case and it plays into the result. This tea isn't as sweet, floral, or nuanced as the best but for the price, it is fine. The flavor complexity seems to increase as the tea cools. I hope this becomes available again."

Dessert in a cup

"Orange Blossom Honey, cinnamon, graham cracker, cherry Jolly Rancher candy, baked pears, floral, extremely sweet, dessert-like, medium thick. Warming and happy feeling cha qi. Amazing how China managed to pull off this tea that tastes as good if not better than most teas of this style that I've had. And the phrase "for the price" didn't come to my mind, because it's just a crazy great tea that just happens to be a lot less expensive than the Taiwan harvested material. Love it!"

Fruit forward beauty

"Fantastic tea for the style and price. I’ve had a fair amount of eastern beauty teas but this is the best I’ve had. Though, not authentic in terroir coming from Yunnan and not from Hsinchu county but don’t let that deter you. This tea is a fruit bomb with layers of sweet peach, apricot, and light orange cinnamon spice. Totally devoid of the woody and fluoride funk that I typically detect in this style of tea. Highly recommended!"

"I love this type of tea (oriental beauty). This one is very fruity, lots of honey, taste is strong for at least 5 infusions."
