Late autumn harvest tea from wild arbor tea trees (between 60 and 80 year old) growing in the area of Yi Bi village of Yi Wu county.  Entirely no spray tea from one family's tea garden.  Hand-processed from start to finish, but without any smokiness!  Classic Yi Wu taste, thick and full in the mouth.  Sweet after-taste with some grass and mushroom notes.

A Great Aged Cake with Much to Offer

"Nose: Dry: warm, honey, brown sugar, molasses. After 1st wash: vegetal, herbal, slightest bit earthy Tasting notes 1st steep: light, floral, honey aftertaste, slight astringency on finish. 2nd steep: more pronounced, slight sour/citrus body 3rd steep: tea is fully opened. Brown sugar sweet smell is readily apparent. Thick, coats mouth. Long finish 4th steep: same 5th steep: requires slightly longer steep time. 20-30 seconds. Previous steeps were 5-10. Floral notes more pronounced now. 6th steep: vegetal notes more prevalent 7th steep: tea beginning to fade. Good stopping point for cold brewing or in a rush 8th steep: requires much longer steep. Maybe a minute. Lighter in color and flavor 9th steep: light sweetness. 10th steep: 3+ minutes. Very little flavor. Tea is done. Number of steeps: 10 Buy again: Yes Overall I really liked this tea and would purchase it again. It was a daily drinker for a while while I was WFH, though about halfway through the cake I decided to pace myself and savor it a bit more. So I switched to weekend brewing. This would probably be one of my favorite cakes from YS, second only to 2017 Autumn Wa Long Village Yi Wu Old Arbor Cake"

A very pleasant dry aged cake

"If you are expecting something very "aged tasting" you will be disappointed, but if you just want a really nice tea you definitely won't be disappointed! This tea is still floral and fruity (distinctly of apricots) despite its age (reviewing in 2021), but it is also very sweet (Yiwu character) and lacking in any real astringency or bitterness that is common in young sheng. I'd say this is a very good example of what dry aging conditions can do, as any harshness has mellowed out, but the original character of the cake is still very apparent."

What I expected

"I really enjoy this tea, It has a smooth thick liquid and turns into a honeylike floral taste quickly after some steeps. Can pack a punch of cha qi for me at times."

Finished the sample in a few days

"If the title doesn't say enough I don't know what will??? Really though this was an extremely good sample and I'm glad I picked it up. The sweetness lingers, I recommend drinking water after each steep like Scott recommends for certain teas with a good body. Drinking the water really highlights the activity and oils coming from your steeps. This is a great "beginner" puerh and daily drinker. I think those "expert" puerh drinkers would even enjoy this. There's obviously a reason I keep coming back to scott and yunnan sourcing!"

Lovely little tea

"I purchased this cake when it was first pressed and have been tasting it periodically ever since. It has aged gracefully even in rather dry Canadian storage, and tasted today, is reminiscent of an excellent Oriental Beauty backed by a healthy, long lived astringency in the throat. The flavour evokes notes of unripe apricot and plum crossed with wild greens in the finish, and still retains much of its original tannic quality and strength, providing an exceptionally enjoyable finish for at least 6 steeps. While this would probably be amazing given another 5 years to age, I doubt my cake will last that long. I only wish I purchased a tong at the original price."

Qui Yun wild arbour

"Excellent raw puer. Pity being pressed into 250g cakes. I just want more ou of this little beauty. A tad of spice which is typical of Yiwu material mixed up with citrus, dried fruit and light vegetable notes. Highly recommended."
