This is from the Xiang Yi Tea Factory in An Hua county of Hunan Province.  Xiang Yi is the second oldest producer of Hunan Hei Cha after Bai Sha Xi Tea Factory.

Hei Cha Zhuan (lit. Black Tea Brick) is composed of An Hua grown tea that's been picked and processed with frying, rolling, wilting and then sun-dried.  The bricks are tightly compressed which allows for slow but determined post fermentation. This tea may or not have golden flowers.  A few bricks have it, but most do not.

This particular brick was stored in An Hua County of Hunan from 2007 until June 2016.  The smell of the dry leaf is that of dried fruit... very sweet and dense fruitiness happening.  The brewed tea is sweet and thick with (not surprisingly) strong fruit sweetness (think dried plums).  Tea can be infused 7 to 10 times if brewed gong fu style.  We recommend loosening the tea using a pick into smallish chunks layer by layer.  We also recommend using a clay pot and the hottest water possible.

An incredibly unique tea that's also very very enjoyable to drink!

A hide tea gem

"A very hide gem that's talk to people who wants to heard. . . it is quite hard to break the brick wich is very very tight, and the brew take more time that's usually, prefer also very hot water. But when you know how to treat this tea it can revels so much !! A tea very complex and very hard to describe, i found some plum, dark fruits, some light woody notes at the same time a subtle vivacity that's you find on green tea. . . Anyway it's a deep expérience, almost mystic !! For me not a tea for everyday as you need some time and "openess but i definetly come back to it !!"

Mmm Smooth Fruity Hei Cha!

"The recommendation to brew this tea in a clay pot was a game changer. Picked up a 50 gram sample of this in 2021 and tried it at that time in a simple 100 ml porcelain gaiwan, 212F water, 30 sec wash. The color of the liquid tea stayed yellow with faint amber. No depth of flavor. Disappointed. Finally got into clay teaware last year. I brewed this tea in a 135 ml Qinzhou Nixing pot with the same parameters. Completely different experience! After this tea wakes up with a good wash, it opens up to what everyone is talking about.... Smooth and fruity like plums is right on! It maintains that fruity flavor for many steeps. I'm considering hoarding a brick."

A personal favourite.

"Working my way through my second brick. This is one of my favourite teas from Yunnan Sourcing. The brick is very tightly compressed so be careful not to stab yourself with your pu erh knife. The tea is fascinatingly fresh and fruity even after many infusions, it honestly never gets watery or thin. No astringency wharsoever. I usually end up just leaving the last steeping to get everything out of the tea and I am always astounded by the freshness and frutiness even after loads of infusions. In a way it is a pretty rough tea at the same time as being very delicate, a bit difficult to explain, you would have to try it. I highly recommend this tea."

First brew on delivery

"First brew on delivery day was incredible, best cup of tea ive ever tried. Somehow the rest of the 50g sample lost all sweet plum flavors and aroma after two days"

Awesome tea!

"Upon opening, package contents smell strongly of fermented plum. I used hottest water and a porcelain pot, realized i needed to separate the tea in thinner layers. Clearly plum - tart then sweet. really enjoyed the cup i let cool a bit more as the mouth feel rounded out and elevated the brightened the fruit notes. Smooth energy as I am finding with Hei Cha in general. No golden flowers. This one, strong cha zui for me, good meditation tea for sure (not edgy/amping). Purchased on US site."

Out of this world

"Un élixir, une boisson céleste qui parle à l'âme. Un goût indescriptible qui résonne beaucoup. On ne peut pas vraiment appeler ça du thé, c'est autre chose. Inspirations d'anciennes bibliothèques avec de la magie à l'intérieur. Goût d'ailleurs, sensations d'ailleurs 🌟 10/10 (GFC 95C Zen Ceramic Gaiwan)"
