Most examples of rice scent herb and ripe tea are made from inferior ripe pu-erh leaves or are younger productions with less age. Here we have a tuo pressed in 2006 from Jinggu (Simao) area tea leaves blended with rice scent herb. The age has done a wonder on this tea, allowing the rice scent and ripe tea time to come together harmoniously.

Nuo Mi Xiang (糯米香 Semnostachya menglaensis H. P. Tsui) is the Chinese name for Sticky Rice Herb. Nuo Mi Xiang is a natural herb that grows in Yunnan and is often mixed in a very small ratio with ripe pu-erh tea to impart a sweet and glutinous rice taste to the tea.

Earthy, Musty, Mild Sticky Rice

"This tea has very little sticky rice fragrance by the time I got it in 2026. The earthy, wet forest aroma dominates even from 3rd steep onwards. I had to blend this with my own sticky rice herb + chrysanthemum buds + osmanthus to make it more palatable and less aggressively mossy 😅 It's loosely compressed so that's a plus. Great for earthy pu'er fans, but you might be disappointed if you're more of a sticky rice fan like me."

Mild flavour, mentionable Qi.

"As a Sticky Rice herb/scent Shou connoisseur, trying this tuo was a no-brainer. Upon unfurling the wrapper, the aroma was very mild, much more so than any other Ripe Rice offerings I've previously enjoyed. The pressing is much less firm than others, giving this tuo a true "bird's nest" feel & appearance. Easily chiseled into, the leaves themselves also remind me of a bird's nest, in that they are large & stem-y; clearly from mature hosts. First steep imparts a lovely liquid on the eyes, very mild on the nose; much more musty than the tell-tale sweetness I am used to. The flavour is similarly so, only availing a subtle hint of it's nature as the broth cools. This is hands-down, one of the single mildest Shous I have ever experienced. I admit to being disappointed at first tasting - However the Cha Qi contained within this delicate brew is DELIGHTFUL! Not overly activating in the body, much more so in the heart; she feels like a warm hug around my chest! It is for this reason that, under-whelming flavour profile noted, I keep coming back to this tuo, rate her 4⭐️, & will seriously consider reordering once this nest is fully dismantled & enjoyed."

"Literally no rice scent at all. Taste is a bit simple and bland"

Very gentle sweetness with the earthy notes

"Lightly pressed tuo. This is lovely smooth brew. Deep earthy notes. The sticky rice herb is very mild. Personally i like it a little stronger - but this is a great tea."

Nuo s present but very subtle.

"It's tastes like the basement of a cathedral and someone is cooking basmati rice waaay in the background. Great earthy Pu-Erh the Nuo Mi Xiang is present but so subtle."
