Clay type: Old Duan Ni clay

Maker: Wang De Ming

Teapot style: Wen Dan

Capacity: 150ml

Special notes: Old Duan Ni clay fired at very high temperatures give this a black speckled effect. High porosity!

This teapot by Wang De Ming was created by a combination of hand-work and molding. The shape is elegant and seamless, lid fit is tight and spout intake is flat on the inside (not ball-filter). The water pours fast and even and by plugging the top the flow will stop quickly.

Biography of Wang De Ming: Wang De Ming is an Arts and Crafts teacher and a member of the China Arts and Crafts Society. Born in the late 60's into a family of Yixing potters where in his early years he studied the classical teapot styles and their craft. By his early 20's he invented his own styles and crafted teapots entirely unique and new. Since that time he has been awarded several times for his creative works.

Every pot is hand-made and the artisan will sometimes change the stamps they use. There may also be some slight differences in the color, handle shape, and volume. It's not possible for us to re-take the pictures for each new batch of teapots that we receive from this artisan. Some differences in the color and shininess of the actual teapot you receive as compared to the one in the photographs may also be due to light conditions when the photographs are taken. Thanks for your understanding!

Good Pot

"I am glad I have it, I use it for young sheng as it works really well for it.First I was quite astonished about that it is so light in weight. To pour is a bit tricky without drippin from the lid even so the fit is really good."

Beautiful and great effect on the tea

"I love the look and feel of this teapot I've been mostly using it for dan Cong oolong it really brings out the higher notes of something like duck shit in an interesting way."

Elliot E. (5/5)

beautiful gracefull pot

"This is such a cute little pot and very beautiful ceramic finish with the high fired clay. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the pour is a little slow for me, but not a problem at all."

Lovely little teapot.

"I have been looking to purchase this pot for over a year and I promised myself I would get it when it became available next. I'm so glad I went through with the purchase. Everything is perfect. Shipping was fast. Only a tiny little leak from the lid if I pour too fast as the spout is very close to the lid. The leak just joins the flow from the spout and does not distrupt the pots perfect flow. Colour and texture are amazing. I can't stop looking at it. All in all I love this pot more then I thought I would. It makes tea so much more enjoyable."

Absolutely stunning pot, beautiful colour

"Absolutely stunning pot, beautiful colour and interesting texture under my fingers. The pot is surprisingly light for it's size but holds heat well, which works well for the ripe puer I have dedicated it to. The lid fits very tightly to the pot's opening and I have not seen any dribble when pouring. Volume is as advertised. As always, packaging of this order was superb."

Lovely pot

"I love this little pot. Beautiful to hold in the hand, you can tell is has been made with love and care. I love the feel of the clay. Very tight fitting lid. The only thing that might be a downside for some is lack of ball filter, so a bit of a slow pour, but not an issue for me. This is going to become one of my favorites, I can tell."

An interesting color change with use.

"I bought this teapot more than 3 years ago, but I only recently started using this regularly. When I first got it, it looked pretty much like the one in the picture, but the color has changed quite a bit. It is less blotchy and developed more even dark metalic color. I can still see some orange spots so they are not completely gone. I use this mainly for raw puerh. I wish the pour is slightly faster. The opening is smaller than I would have liked, but overall this is a very good teapot and I don't hesitate to give five stars!"

Excellent teapot!!!

"It is lighter to my other Yixing teapot, has a rusty metallic look and highly porous. Very satisfy with the design and quality."

Love it!

"I am very happy that I asked Scott for his recommendation before I bought my first two quality teapot. This was one of them (for not green Oolong), a Jian Shui Clay (for Shou) being the other. Both work perfectly, and deliver great tasting tea. Hard to explain the feeling, when you just love the thing!"

Q&A

Will this teapot be good for ripe pu'erh? I see low-oxidation oolongs and raw pu'erh mentioned in other replies.
Yes, it would be appropriate for ripe pu-erh tea as well!
I am confused, it is best for oxidized or for not too oxidized Oolong?
It can work well for both jade oolongs (Tie Guan Yin) (low oxidation) and roasted or more oxidized oolongs like Dan Cong and Rock Oolongs.
i see that you said that this works best with less oxidized teas. would you advise against using this material to brew red teas such as black dragon pearl or loshan black?
It's really good for any kind of teas. I have a friend who also uses it for 红茶 with good results.
How will this pot work with greener oolongs?
Yes... it's best for Jade Oolongs, Dan Cong and Raw Pu-erh!
