This is a premium production is a blend of medium fermentation Liu Bao tea from the oldest producer of Liu Bao in Guangxi (Three Cranes / Wuzhou Tea Factory). Much like ripe pu-erh tea, liu bao is wet piled for for several weeks to allow fermentation to take place. The degree of fermentation depends on the amount of time the tea is wet piled and can differ depending on the intended outcome.

The 2503 is a blend of Liu Bao from different areas of Guangxi and processed in different ways.  Overall the feeling is of a medium fermentation Liu Bao, but has a touch of the darker more traditional Liu Bao as well.

The taste is complex with some tastes of mushroomy ripe pu-erh with some bittersweet dark chocolate notes and sweet after-taste.  This countered with the betel nut earthiness of the darker traditional Liu Bao gives this tea a complexity that is rarely found in the more traditional Liu Bao teas.  Aging will bring out some interesting and satisfying results.

THE BEST OF THE BEST

"I already tried this tea and decided to buy a whole basket, and I’m thinking of buying more for ageing. For me, this is the best Liu Bao I've ever drunk. I have tried a lot of Liu Bao, I have some baskets for ageing at home, but this tea suits me the best. It gives a soft, warm feeling. It tastes more shu than sheng. Now there is not much betel taste in it, it is somewhat similar to shu pu-erh, only I would say that it is much softer, more pleasant, and more complex. After that, shu puer seems rough and primitive. However, I am a big fan of shu pu-erh."

Decent

"There's not all that much to write home about with this one. I've had a few sessions with it over the last few weeks so it's entirely possible it may develop some interesting characteristics as it continues to acclimate to my environment (I've had this happen a number of times with Liu Bao's in particular), but as of now it's just okay. A nice roasty quality on the finish and a familiar Liu Bao muskiness that isn't too strong, just the right amount. But it lacks in any kind of robustness and notable mouthfeel. Decent if you're looking for an inexpensive daily sipper, but not too much else."
