Gao Mao Er Xi Tea Factory was started in 2007 in An Hua County of Hunan and specializes in Hei Cha (Fu Brick, Hei Brick, Qian Liang and Tian Jian).

This particular tea won an honorary spot with a score of 95.6% at the 15th Global Tea Fair.

Liang Bai Dan (两百担) means 200 x 50 kilograms.  Dan 担 is an older measurement used in pre-war China that is equal to 50 kilograms today.  In 1953 after the end of WW2, Mao gifted 200担 of An Hua tea to Stalin.

This particular Fu Brick is made from high quality An Hua tea and contains the "Golden Flowers" as is typical of Fu Brick. The taste is rich and full, with notes of malt and slight caramel/smoke.  It reminds me of a cross between a Fu Brick and Tian Jian (also from An Hua).  Incredibly unique Fu Brick, unlike any other I've ever had!

Summer tasting, two years later

"Wow! This fu cha is so sweet and warming. . . I love it. Creme caramel and woody notes. It is delicious unadulterated, but also makes a superb milk tea!"

Mellow cup

"This is a perfect after-dinner tea. Tasting in winter (different from summer time - it's a hei cha thing) the wet leaf smells of yeasty dinner rolls and creme brulee. The burnt brown sugar fragrance is intoxicating. Unfortunately (at least in winter) the aroma doesn't translate into the taste, but there is that characteristic woody/earthy taste with a hint of raisin that is so comforting and lovely in a good fu cha. The thing that really impressed me this session was the cha qi - around the 3rd or 4th infusion I felt super relaxed and blissful. I could just sit here on my sofa forever, enjoying the hazy, cozy warm glow that has enveloped me."

VERY COMPLEX AROMA

"This a tea with a very complex, noble and enjoyable aroma. Starting from the very first cup, hot waves come all through my body. Interesting feeling."

Thanks for the link

"I haven’t actually purchased the tea (yet!) but I like this channel. It’s a great way to learn more about the tea market in China. Thanks for sharing!"

Enjoyable, fairly complex tea

"Copper tea soup is clear. Aroma is sweet with a toasty roasted impression. Burnt sugar and a cooked sweet fruity aroma. Has a tart element too that reminds me of sweet pickle relish. Later infusions there are old wood notes from fermentation. Mouthfeel is smooth and oily; full bodied, low bitterness and a hint of astringency. Pleasantly mouthwatering; good hui gan. Flavor is sweet, with caramelized sugar, cooked fruit and more complex difficult to describe nuances. Has a pleasant lingering sweet cooked fruit finish. The tea has fairly strong and pleasant cha qi. Overall a very good tea. Quite drinkable and enjoyable."

Q&A

What might a good ratio be of tea to water (gms to mils?). Many thanks!
5-7 grams per 100ml. Hottest water! It's tightly compressed, so make sure to break it into thin wafer sections so that hot water can get into it.
Hi, roughly how may infusions will this tea brew?
Depends on how you brew it. Typical gong fu method it would give 8-10 infusions.
