This is a classic styled Jin Jun Mei that was processed to remove the fine hairs (脱毛) giving it a more robust dark chocolate character.  Although, the tea overall is quite robust you can change the brewing parameters to bring out more chocolate character, or brew with cooler water and get a bit more sweetness with dried fruit character.  This is a robust straight-forward tea to enjoy as an everyday drinking Jin Jun Mei.

Reviews

Chocolate goodness!

"It has this dark chocolate flavor with a tiny tiny bit of cocoa bitterness. I am surprised by this one. The tea feels full bodied. It has also malty, woody, and maybe some roasted notes to it. The sweetness and the smoothness of this one is really good. Very good quality to price ratio!"

This is my all time

"This is my all time favorite black tea. Its rich chocolate taste is like drinking warm chocolate. It’s wonderful!"

Wendy K. (5/5)

Robust, smooth, full of flavor.

"I brewed at 205F. The wet leaves did not have the same attractivness as the golden bud ones do, but the flavor was exceptional. The tea was robust, fruity, full of richness. Multiple steeps retained the character. Simply wonderful."

Lives up to its name

"Medium thick and smooth mouthfeel. Malt loaf, chocolate, raisins. Fruity on first taste with dried currant notes. Woody notes of oak and chestnuts turn a bit greener veering in to resin or apple stems. Dark chocolate persists. Dry lingering finish with notes of oak and subtle spices."

Consistently rich, delicious, chocolatey tea. My all time favoritet

"This tea is smooth, rich, deep, chocolatey wonderful. I tried a sample of the 2024 and it's superb. It's my favorite tea, like drinking chocolate milk and a great way to start the morning with deep pleasure."

Greta value

"Good tea, I was hoping for something stronger than the Tong Mu Village "Chocolatey Jin Jun Mei" but this was enjoyable none the less."

Hugo M. (4/5)

Lovely profile!

"It’s a very interesting black tea. Strong aroma in the first brew that reminds of natural fermented soy sauce. Depending on how you treat it it will deliver either more maltiness/woodiness or sweet/honey aromas. Long lasting finish and very elegant."

Alain G. (5/5)

Not quite it

"I decided after trying the different types of Jin Jun Mei (imperial, gold classic) that the flavor was missing plum and chocolate notes that I was expecting. So my search for a more flavorful black tea will continue."
