This cake is an excellent example of how an aged "Huang Pian" (黄片 matured leaf) raw pu-erh tea cake can taste so good.  Picked from 2000 Spring matured leaves from Yi Wu area tea trees and then pressed and stored in Kunming for 17 years!

This tea brews up an active and bright (both in color and taste) tea soup with a kind of of spicy herbal sweetness.  No astringency or bitterness, just ultra smooth sweet honey goodness!

This is unlike any other tea you have ever had, and at the same time its delicious and enjoyable!

357 grams per cake

Wrapped in white paper (does not come packed in a bamboo tong).

If you only ever try one mature leaf tea, this is the one to try

"This tea is quite unlike anything I've tried before. And while admittedly my first huang pian, I have a feeling it may be a long time before I try another, because I have already found in this tea something that approaches a perfected taste. Initially, it is evocative of old parchment, with a bit of the sweetness of dry haygrass. Futher steeps reveal an emerging sweetness, with a honey-like, and perhaps even floral character, with underlying hints of golden fruits such as apricot. This is the sort of tea that really nourishes your soul."

Twenty-three seems old. Not even

"Twenty-three seems old. Not even close to me, my favorite grandchild, a fine French wine, or a library book I forgot to return. Like everything this favorite tea of mine is not going to last forever. Satchitananda"

Wonderful Tea Journey

"It's late, and I still have to do today's Wordle. But this tea demands that I write my first ever review of any tea. The first steeps are a quiet introduction, evoking a slight leather base. But as the leaves unfurl in subsequent steeps, the scent & soup take on a fruity quality. Raisins, apricot, something in that area. I might even describe a quality just a bit akin to the taste of a child's sour patch candy. All the while, a substantive, savory mouthfeel in every steep, no detectable astringency. Now eleven steeps in and still going strong, this is the first raw puerh that I can truly say that I loved. Everyone should try this tea, it's a wonderful gong fu experience. Bravo, Scott, bravo! (Hmmm, I think I'll start today's wordle with BRAVO)"

Lovely huang pian. Rich sour

"Lovely huang pian. Rich sour tobacco taste, with a fruity finish. Stands multiple steeps. This is excellent value"

Absolutely Amazing. 10/10

"Majestic, Magnificent, Mellow. One of the 3 teas that I rated as a crystal clear 10/10 in 10 years of experience. The smell of the leaves (dry, warm and wet) reminded of a dusty old library filled with tomes of yellowed parchment, from an ancient age of yore. The dry aroma and swirling waves of sourness remind of dried plums and an aged sherry. The tail is long into a quarter after drinking, the body gently yet decisively dancing in round motions at the back of the mouth and around the root of the tongue. After 10 brews I feel emotionally cleansed like after a good cry in warm and gentle summer rain. I feel euphoric, calm and cherished. This is why tea is not just a hobby but a life-long passion."

Highly reccomend

"This was my first experience with a matured sheng, and I'm sold! It has such complex deep flavors, but will try to describe it. First steep had notes of tobacco, saddle leather, old hay, cedar and dried apricots all layered with mild burnt honey. Further steeps faded more into earthy dried fruits (dates, prunes, apricots) with an undertone that can only be described as old library book. For me it had a very relaxing cha qi. I'll be buying more of this soon as the wallet allows!"

Too different

"It has nearly nothing common with any semi-aged sheng or shu I have tasted. Aroma of a herbal medicine, dried thyme, fresh walnut, hay, lemon. A bit of Awa Bancha, a truly fermented Japanese tea I dislike, but this one does not have so much sauerkraut aroma. I don’t get much pleasure from it, maybe because I have an aversion to such herbal aromas. As for positive things: it does not get bitter even when hit with boiling water and steeped for several minutes, you will just get out more body of it. Can be brewed many times. It is the most tangy tea I tasted, the sensation on tongue is quite unusual, a bit like drinking lemon juice, but without being too sour and having a bit of sweetness. The brew looks surprising, is clear without any particles, has deep dark yellow colour, without any brownish hue I would suspect from an aged tea."

kind of like a shoumei on research chemicals

"A very unique aged raw pu-erh. Has a pronounced sweet & sour tang with cotton candy, muscatel grapes, hay, and raisins with enough of a basis to remind you that you're still drinking raw pu-erh and not shoumei."

Q&A

Will this ever come back in stock? Thanks
No. Sorry
The color of the leafs are still greenish, 18 years old should more like red brown, this greenish looks like around 10 years old. It looks like my 2009 7542 also kunming storage. Also the color of the tea soup should be close to orange or red. Is this really from 2000?
Yes, it's very tightly compressed and aging in dry Kunming condition.
Might sound like a dumb question - but isn't huang pian considered the lowest grade of leaf, aka- not suitable for tea making? From what I know huang pian are separated leaves left from the sorting process. Please correct me if i'm wrong because this is a very intresting tea to me and i'd like to know more about it!
Huang Pian have been used to make raw and ripe teas with great results. Try a sample of this and you'll see what I mean!
