Hei Jin Gang Clay is a blend of Zi Ni (Purple Clay) and Bao Lan Zhu Ni.  It's dark in color with some purple and brown with a small amount of sand mixed in.  Porous and perfect for seasoning with Pu-erhs or Oolongs.  It's also good for Hei Cha (like Fu Brick, Tian Jian or Liu Bao).

 

Volume is 110ml (+/- 10ml)

 

 

Artist's Name and Background:  Xia Cai Hong is a graduate of the Yixing Academy of Clay Arts.  She's from a teapot crafting family that's been creating works of art in Yixing for three generations.  Her favorite teapot styles are "Fang Gu" and "Rong Tian".  Her father Xia Fu Ru is now retired but worked in Yixing Factory #1 starting in the 1970's after the end of the Cultural Revolution.

 

Every pot is hand-made and the artisan will sometimes change the stamps they use. There may also be some slight differences in the color, handle shape, and volume. It's not possible for us to re-take the pictures for each new batch of teapots that we receive from this artisan. Some differences in the color and shininess of the actual teapot you receive as compared to the one in the photographs may also be due to light conditions when the photographs are taken. Has some kind of coating that peeled off during seasoning

"First of all, the shape of this pot is lovely and the lid fits well. However, I went to season the pot in the manner recommended by Scott and when I pulled the pot out of the tea soup after seasoning, I saw that a part of the pot had what appeared to be a coating that had wrinkled and peeled away. So now the pot looks a tad patchy."

"I just received my new Hei Jin Gang Clay "Fang Gu" Yixing Teapot 110ml. It arrived safely and in good order. 真可爱. This little teapot has a beautiful, earthy rich clay body that is visually striking. It is very pleasing to the eye. The shape, size and feel are quite satisfying to the touch. The lid fits snugly covering a sufficiently large opening for brewing and cleaning up afterwards. Very beautiful and well made

"So beautiful and functional! Its actual capacity is of 100 ml and it passes all the common tests for this kind of teapots (lid staying on with flipped pot and spout blocked, spout and handle aligned, etc) The clay itself has an incredible softening effect, tried on one of the most bitter teas in my collection. It also has quite a flattening effect on the aromatic profile, but I expect this to change as it seasons, I'm not an espert."

Just what I wanted!

"This is a great little teapot! Delightful to the eye, delightful in the hand. The large lid opening facilitates charging it with tea at the start of a session, and also cleaning out the spent tea afterward. The closely fitted lid seals well, the perfectly sized filter and spout pour freely. I've been looking for a smaller teapot, around 100 ml, for some time. With hand-made pottery, the published sizes are only approximate, and can easily vary +/- 25% or more. As this was described as 110 ml +/- 10 ml, I took a chance, and was in luck! The actual measured volume of the one I received is 101ml - perfect! Charged with 5 g of tea, it yields a perfect brew. After initial washing with tea water, I broke it in with the magnificent 2016 Hai Lang Hao "Lao Man'E Old Arbor", one of my favorites among teas that I can't really afford, but like to drink anyway. Wonderful! At less than $80 it is also a great bargain. Highly recommended!"

Beautiful teapost that makes delicious tea

"I can't believe this teapot is so good! Honestly for this price I expected something much simpler. I bought another similarly priced teapot from Yunnansourcing and it's not anywhere close to this one. I love how it looks, the feeling of clay and from the very beginning it brewed delicious tea. I bought it for puers and it's a perfect match. I also use it for black teas and it's good as well."

What accounts for the drastic difference in price for this pot (and others) vs the more expensive pots? The online forums make me afraid of investing in "cheap pots" but the reviews are great and I trust this company! Thanks.
It's not made by a well known artist. It's just a solid teapot and as you mentioned many people have had good experiences with this teapot and Xia Cai Hong's works.
Hi, I've been reading around that striped oolongs like yanchas required flat teapots (for example fang gu)... What do you think ; is that important, or do you not care much about the shape?
I have done tastings of the same teas in same clay with low and high profile shapes and noticed zero difference.

Very rarely... they are unpopular in China. Check out Jian Shui pots.. there are more there from time to time under 100ml
