This is a nice loose leaf ripe pu-erh tea that is sweet, fruity, and smooth.  In later steeps it becomes kind of creamy.  It takes about 6-8 steeps gong fu style (possibly more if you push it) and without any wet pile taste.   An excellent budget ripe pu-erh tea that is an enjoyable daily drinker.

It's been aging in Menghai (warm and humid) since 2016 and the bulk of our stock will remain there into the future.  We are planning to get 1 case at a time sent up to Kunming to keep this tea's Menghai stored character.

Reviews

Name is apt, set expectations low

"I don’t know what’s with these five star reviews talking about the incredible flavors. I find the flavor unremarkable - like paper, with a suggestion of puerh. If you don’t care too much or can’t tell the difference, then this is a good, cheap tea to load up on. There are so many other exceptional teas on the site, I will not be buying this one again. If you are looking for a puerh to try, I would start with the golden melon 15 years aged on best sellers page ."

Good Everyday brew

"I picked this one up in a 250g BOGO deal. So far I've drank this one the most! I always drink my tea grandpa-style: 2-3 Tsp of Tea for 500ml of boiling water in the morning and I refill my thermos once during lunchtime. The tea is flavorful and full-bodied even after three steeps, but the leaves start falling apart then. I'd recommend buying a smaller quantity first, because the taste has been too earthy for some of my friends. The smell is different from its taste! I would buy again, although I will take some time to try other teas."

Kim D. (4/5)

it tastes like autumn

"The first steep after the wash was quite musty, maybe i'll try two washes next time. The tea soup is very dark and has a deep wood and earth flavour. It smells like old books and leaf litter in autumn (in a good way) but doesn't have a lot else going on. It definitely is a good every day drinker. I can't rate this 5 stars since I'm not blown away by it."

Drinkable

"Drinkable if you have nothing else. Wu Liang black tea is similarly priced but much better."

Sofus (2/5)

Everyday for sure!

"Dry smell is mildly musty and fermented. Wet smell is the same but reduced Woody, ashy, smokey flavors. Not overly complex; simple and good. Texture is mineraly, yet smooth liqueur is clear, and crimson, leaning to a red dominant color"

Very Easy Drinker

"A slight fishy smell made me a bit skeptical at first, but none of that comes through in the flavor. Rich and earthy, good mineral notes, and overall an exceptionally smooth finish. Glad I grabbed a large bag."
