This is a small producer Liu Bao tea that was picked and processed in 2016 from Cang Mountain material (in the west of Wuzhou county).   The Liu Bao was wet piled and then inoculated with golden flowers (金华 eurotium cristatum aka aspergillus cristatum) in the final stage.  After wet piling the tea is steamed briefly to make it wet, inoculated, and then compressed by hand into the basket.  This light degree of compression allows the right environment for the golden flowers to flourish.

The taste of this tea is very clean and smooth, at the time of writing (April 2021) there was a very subtle wet pile taste still present but that will fade within the next year or two.  The tea was not wet stored and doesn't have mustiness at all, it's very clean and vibrant tea!  There is a betel nut and fruit character to it, as well as a mineral character (this ties in a bit with the betel nut taste).

Very nice Liu Bao tea that is also very affordable!

ALLERGEN ALERT!!!   ** Because there is a possibility the golden flowers were inoculated using wheat flour we cannot guarantee this tea is safe for those with Celiac Disease or those that have severe gluten induced allergies **

"Good smooth tea. A very warm qi."

One of my favorites!

"This tea snuck up on me. I love Liu Bao and try my best to at least sample all the Liu Bao that Yunnan Sourcing offers. This is different than many because of the “golden flowers.” I have tried other Hei Cha with golden flowers before but was a bit disappointed. I tried this one and thought it was good but I didn’t expect it to become a tea that I make sure to always have around. But slowly I found myself craving it. It is truly unique and special and I couldn’t think of anything else to compare it to. The flavor is deep, dark, complex, and lovely. It tastes wonderful for many infusions."

Absolutely delicious

"This tea is magnificent. It is clean and nutty and fruity and I personally didn’t get a wet pile taste at all. The subtle mineral taste is actually very pleasant and I became an instant fab, to be honest."

Magthel L. (5/5)

Best Liu Bao ever.

"I was surprised after ordering several Liu Bao samples, all much older than this one that this was my favorite. I will be ordering more ! Its the darkest and richest ever. I got 7 good steeps... just amazing. NEVER bitter, always sweet, full bodied and I think possibly the best black tea I ever had. I have 100s in my cabinet too. This one is outstanding."
