Bai Sha Xi Tea Factory in Anhua County of Hunan is the earliest producer of "Dark Tea" (hei cha) in Hunan and the first to produce the Golden Flower bricks in China.  Bai Sha Xi was established in 1940 to product Hei Cha bricks, then in 1953 they produced the first Fu Brick with Golden Flowers.

This production commerates 120 years since Mao Zedong's birth. Mao Zedong was a Hunan native and an avid tea drinker. If he were here today he would certainly feel great pride when reflecting on the development of the Hunan tea industry!

This 1000 gram tea brick is composed entirely of spring harvest material from An Hua county area mountainous tea gardens.  The tea was fermented using Bai Sha Xi's proprietary process, then pressed into bricks where the golden flowers flourish in the inner section of the brick where the conditions are just right to support them. After a few days the Golden Flowers have thrived the bricks are dried gradually using a temperature of 37C which preserves gradually halts the spread of the flowers without damaging them or the tea leaves.

The brewed tea is orange in color.  The taste is sweet, thick, with notes of dried fruit, hay and mushrooms.  Very lubricating in the mouth and throat with a mild and comfortable feeling in body.

1000 grams per brick.  Each brick comes in a lovely gift box with a ceramic round coin with the bust of Mao Zedong on it!

Well-balanced , thick, apricot kernel

"As the title suggests, this is a good fu cha, well balanced in terms of aroma, with high notes of citrus that less resemble in the actual taste, given main aroma (to me) is of apricot kernel, raw almonds, with a slight bitterness and less floral than the description suggests. Good everyday tea - fair price/quality ratio - maybe a bit salty - taste didn't changed massively during the steeps. worth trying - nice body sensation."

Everyday Tea

"I had been ordering tea from an expensive New York company, but decided to mix it up for budget reasons. So glad I did. The first cup I had some sweetness but is more hay forward. The second cup is so sweet and drinkable. Lovely tea and the brick was huge so I will be drinking for a while!! Make sure you have adequate storage before you order."

So glad I bought a whole brick ...

"After having received a Fu Brick as a free gift with my last order, I decided to invest in a brick of Run Zhi Fu. It was a bit of a gamble, but I liked the Fu Shen brick so much, that I was willing to take the risk. I am glad I did, because Run Zhi Fu is in another league and is on the way to become one of my most treasured teas yet. Compression of the brick is not too tight, which makes it relatively easy to get chunks of whole leafs into your brewing vessel. I tend to give the tea a short wash and begin with a first steep of around 10 seconds. Subsequent steeps are prolonged in 10 second increments. Best results for my taste are achieved with near boiling water, brewed in my oil spot stoneware gaiwan. This tea takes its time to open up, which means that infusions #1 and #2 are lighter in colour and not as intense in taste. These early steeps are not weak, or boring in any way, they just build up slowly for the highlights, which are steeps #3 to #5. Earlier and later steeps do have all the goodness one expects from a Fu Brick tea, including the sensational flavour and effects of the Golden Flowers. There are also flavours of dried fruit, etc., as others have reported. Steeps #3 to #5 have some additional 'mysterious' flavour though, which I cannot put into words. It truly has to be experienced, take my word for it ..."

A very nice creamy tea

"This is a very nice tea. I got a very creamy taste with like a hint of some blue barie. At a later infusion the cream started to transform in to a bit more of a umani tast like you find in a miso soup. Overall a very very good tea. It is very hard compressed so time to take out the saw and start cutting. I do find the body a little bit to soft for my liking bud the tast you get is very balanced and lingers on for a good amount of time. Big recommendations for lovers of creamy teas and soft teas."

Absolutely stunning Tea!

"On my first exploration into Fu Zhuan via the "Just Fu Cha" sampler, Run Zi Fu stood out the most to me and I eventually purchased an entire brick. It has its own delicious unique mysterious flavor that is difficult to describe, plenty of golden flowers, tranquil cha qi and gives many many many infusions. Like most Fu Zhuan, the dry leaf looks rough and coarse but the flavor is quite clean like an Oolong. Run Zi Fu takes a few steeps to get going but it's worth the patience. The first two steeps are light in color (light yellow), the tea soup is sweet, mellow, oily and mildly earthy but by the 3rd infusion a strange but very delicious sour taste of sweet honey/molasses, stone fruit and deeper earthiness appears which is absolutely lovely and unique. The tea soup gets much more viscous, oily, dark red/amber and stronger on the 3rd and subsequent infusions, but not bitter. The tea leaves a coating on my tongue, mouth and throat after swallowing with returning flavor. There is also some Wu Yi Rock Oolong-like character going on as well. I understand that cha qi is subjective to each person. For me Run Zi Fu offers a very unique tranquil mellowing experience similar to but not as sedating as GABA Oolong, a tingling buzz sensation all over the surface of my skin and comforting feelings like being wrapped in a warm blanket which all seem to ebb and flow with each successive infusion. This tea absolutely wowed me! and has become my favorite Hei cha and one of my favorite teas, period."

Mellow Honey Sweetness

"This tea have a great honeyness flavour which i appreciate. The tea can steeped many times without losing to much flavour and develop a more balanced character. It has some kind of lubricating sweetness without astringency. This tea is definitely a good decision if you like FuBricks."

Comforting and well-defined

"I recently bought a hei cha sampler in order to expand my knowledge of these teas. Having tried all of them, I can now document my thoughts. They all have a very comforting quality, and this particular one especially. The aroma is fairly complex with notes of honey in dry leaf; sweet bread, yeast, fermented apples, earth and some medicinal smell in wet leaves. Taste is quite well defined and stable with a sweet metallic character and a very spicy aftertaste. I notice flavours like those of fermented grains and soy beans. The liquor has a medium body and a smooth, fleeting mouthfeel. This is a very nice tea that is well defined, which means it can be quite memorable and suited to specific scenarios. It is not my favourite from the hei cha sampler at the moment though."

Wow!

"Just had my first session of Fu Cha and I must say it was completely different and much better than I'd thought it would be. Buttery sweet with notes of dried apricot. I expected something like shou or Liu Bao, instead what I got was something much more akin to a Yancha. Fantastic! Now I have another obsession....great."
