This is a unique wild purple tea from Dehong that was plucked in early March near Liang He area of Dehong (Yunnan).  It's a pure bud pluck, and the buds are large and long.  After plucking, the tea is sun-dried.  No other processing is done, making this a very primitive style of tea. The color is a purple green color when dry and once brewed the color of the tea is green with hints of purple and red.

The taste is super smooth and sweet, with a big mouth-feel and strong hui gan.  There is little bitterness, but a slight vegetal and floral aspect which is a very pleasant counterpoint to the long-lasting sweetness this tea delivers.

Incredibly unique tea that has never been offered before!

Good Flavor and Pricepoint!

"For the pricepoint, this tea is really really nice. I prefer the "Sweet" Ya Bao Wild Purple Tea found on this site in terms of flavor strength, but it costs more than double this tea! You get a similarly sweet flavor here, but with an added bitterness. The main taste is floral with grapefruit. I reccommend SHORT steeps for this tea to avoid excessive bitterness, just ten seconds to start. Later steeps will have a really nice, consistent, subtly sweet flavor."

Great Surprise

"This was a fantastic surprise. I’d never had purple tea of this sort before and had no idea what to expect. Super florals, huge bouquet, like honey and honeysuckle married together. On the palate there is also dried orange citrus, equally fragrant. By the second or third steep the aroma and palate both are balanced with fruitiness and florals, all bursting with sweet flavor, very pleasant. Shortly thereafter earthiness creeps in to balance out the experience a little, but only marginally, subtly, not right in the middle of anything. Another while later the bouquet begins to subside and the notes suddenly begin to include tannins and some straightforward camellia notes (ie, it tastes like tea leaves). These increasingly dominate. At the very end, the camellia notes take a curious twist, and offer a small hint of the dried orange citrus from earlier - not alongside them, but in and of themselves. Could they be one and the same note at different stages of evolution? A truly fantastic delight, this tea."

Best overall option for purple ya bao?

"Ya bao teas have been my favorite for a long time. This purple variant is outstanding. Subtle yet pronounced fruity flavors that leave a wonderful aftertaste. You definitely don't want to eat or drink anything for awhile after drinking this tea so you can just enjoy its lingering sweetness. The sweet ya bao purple tea is also excellent but this one is arguably a better value option. Truly exiquisite tea."

Sweet and unique

"It took me a couple of tries to unveil the true quality of this tea, but it is very good. Having tied the Purple leaf moonlight white, I had expectations coming into this tea and the dry aroma had a similar fruity pungency. The similarity fades once the brewing begins however. This sun-dried buds produce a very pale liquor white a notable sweetness both to the aroma and flavor. The fruity pungency seems to be a background note balanced with the sweetness. The overall effect is gentle, mild and refreshing and the durability is quite good, going half a dozen steep done gong fu. Worth it to try this tea for the price!"

Special indeed

"This tea keeps on lingering in my mind. It's the first nose I took from the freshly opened bag. It reminded me of clipping hedges in the garden. The freshly cut plants tend to smell like this. I was a bit afraid, that this vegetal aroma will be overwhelming and unpleasent, but I was wrong. It's easily the most fresh tasting tea I ever had. Light, a bit floral and sweet, that vegetal aroma and some soft bitterness in the throat. And there is some body and mouthfeel as well. Every sort of tea is slumbering in this one and would come to shine after the processing. Highly recommended as an educational tea. It's four stars, because I don't know if I ever have the urge to drink this tea as I have no idea where it could fit."

"Delightful surprise with every sip!! Very light in color. Strong fragrance (i smell grapefruit!). Sweet from the first pour. My dad and i were very happy in drinking this unusual tea. He commented that it was unlike anything he had ever tasted. I was dreading a heavy work week coming up, but this tea put some spring in my step, and now, i am looking forward to the week!! It is lovely!!"

Q&A

i just opened my bag of this tea. should it have "yellow/golden" looking spores on it? almost looks moldy?
We had a few bags with this problem, please contact us directly for refund and don't drink it.
Based on the description, this sounds like it was processed in the traditional Fujianese white tea fashion. Would you consider this a white tea or pu’er?
It's a purple tea varietal processed as a kind of sun-dried white tea.
