This tea is grown by our long-time Anxi oolong tea supplier's father in their own family plot in Gande (Anxi). The tea bushes are allowed to grow without any kind of pruning or use of fertilizers or pesticides. The tea is only picked in the spring and autumn and is processed in the traditional method with a light charcoal roast and rolled by hand (not machine). The resulting tea leaves are lightly compressed and easily unfurl during steeping. The taste of the tea itself is very thick and flavorful, with a warm sweetness and minimal astringency. The after-taste in the mouth is also long-lasting and lubricating.

If you are a fan of roasted oolongs, this Tie Guan Yin varietal oolong is sure to please!

Great high-roasted Tieguanyin

"Received big pack of teas recently mainly with fresh 2026 Spring crops… So tried everything, but TGY, and now YS is urging me to give a review for this tea :) So… had to open this one too. What can I say. I had a supplier from Anxi where I had ordered TGY teas before EU made things too complicated for import and his teas were the best. Had tried to order some non-Yunnan teas at that time too and while they were good, they weren’t matching the best I could get from other places (or were more expensive). Now I decided to give it a try again and everything I got is a top level, including this one. YS is definitely improved on acquiring the best teas from other regions than Yunnan. High roasted TGY is something I already tried from that Anxi source and it was amazing, much better than most DHP teas you can get. And here I am experiencing the taste I am used to again. It is a bit lower level at looks to what I am used to, but who cares if the taste / aromas are unaffected and great as it can be."

Very WILD

"This is the first time I’ve ever had a wild tea before and it certainly lives up to its name. I brewed it using the gong fu method. I used 9g of leaf in a 155ml Luni Yixing teapot 205F. One rinse, then 10 seconds. First impression was a bitterness immediately followed by a strong tongue tingling sensation with lots of mouth watering going on, then slowly I noticed a cooling on inhale, especially in my nose. Then as I sat there wondering if I was going to ever drink this again I started getting a very sweet aftertaste which lingered for a long time. That followed with my mind daydreaming about what it would be like to wonder around on a hike in the hills and finding a tea bush with fresh new growth and picking it and taking it home and roasting and brewing it and drinking it and when I looked up about 10 minutes had gone by with me daydreaming with a very sweet aftertaste and salivation going on in my mouth. And I thought “this is wild”. My take on this tea is buy a small amount and go for the experience. It’s a fun ride, something different and probably memorable. It won’t be my everyday tea but I can see myself buying it again just for the joyride."

A lovely heavily roasted TGY

"This is a great roasted TGY - with dark chocolatey notes and very smooth texture. No harsh feeling in mouth, which is common is poorly roasted teas. This is good craftmanship. This tea still maintain some floral/fruity elements despite the heavy roast. One of the better high roast TGYs out there."

Would buy again

"Excellent tea. Though it may take a little trial and error to figure out the amount of tea leaves to water you prefer. It has a strong smell and flavor."

The King Of Pop?

"If you were to say this is tea and not pop, you'd be correct. But you'd also be incorrect in presuming I mean soda. No, I totally mean pop in the sense of pop music. Why? I'm glad you asked! Tieguanyin is a difficult tea for me to enjoy because I have had so many over the years that have left me thoroughly underwhelmed. Sure, I like some of it, including those sold by Yunnan Sourcing, but it takes something really special to make me want to actually buy large quantities and then not take four years to open the bag a second time. This tea, on the other hand, absolutely wowed me. So much so that I could have sworn I heard Michael Jackson off in the distance somewhere doing that "hee hee" thing he was wont to do. Not just once, mind you. I heard the King of Pop repeatedly during my first session. After checking my spare bedroom, my office, garage, the coat closets, bathrooms and my kitchen junk drawer and finding no sign of the one-gloved wonder, I moonwalked back to my tea table, confident that it was the tea causing me such inexorable joy. A second session later in the day confirmed this. Oh yes, this tea is that good. It's everything I want out of a Tieguanyin: that signature sourness, a perfect roast and a touch of fruitiness. The only thing that could possibly make this tea any better is if it came with Bubbles the chimp. I'm not sure chimps are allowed through Customs in most countries, so I'm happily settling for the tea alone. If you want an excellent Tieguanyin, this is the one you want. If you want a free chimp, this is not the tea for you."
