Suan Zao Shu village is one of the most remote villages in the Jinggu area, taking nearly 2 hours from Jinggu town to arrive there. The winding dirt roads stop about 5 kilometers before you arrive and the remaining distance must be traversed by foot. Suan Zao Shu village lies at an altitude of 1800 meters and is home to tea trees ranging in age from 50 years up to 400 years. Our Suan Zao Shu tea cake is made from tea leaves harvested 200-300 year old tea trees in the Li family tea garden.

Suan Zao Shu tea is very strong in flavor, aroma and cha qi. Our black tea version is from the exact same tea leaves as our raw pu-erh production (available here)! Strong, malty, fruity sweet, with some dark chocolate bitterness makes this a sure bet for lovers of premium tea, and especially for those who love large leaf (assamica) black teas!

Stone-pressed in the traditional manner.

Great

"The tea hit my mouth. Could taste the entire tea all over my tongue and the thickness hit everything inside my mouth. This tea is very coating o the mouth. Very thick and rich. Dark color. when the tea went into my mouth I could tell this is a complex tea. Very strong cha qi but did not get jittery. the thickness of the tea is quite lingering. Deep rich taste."

Smooth and strong

"If I had unlimited budget, I would drink this tea regularly. I like to brew it very strong, but it's still smooth and not bitter and all. Very powerful experience. I already drank my cake, might order another one later. Or maybe two."

Good !

"I find this tea to have somewhat of a more high-pitched tone (hard to define - slight fuity sourness ?) before revealing it's more earthy chocolate aspects (milk chocolate ?). It takes quite a bit of place in the mouth, and the finish has an appreciable decent length. I may be wrong, but maybe letting it settle for a few more months will allow it to develop more of its basses ? Very enjoyable right now anyway !"
