"Ye Lai Xiang" literally means Night Blooming Jasmine Aroma (Cestrum nocturnum) 夜来香花.  It's a aromatic Dan Cong which has been grown for centuries in and around Shi Tou Jiao (at the foot of the rocks) Village.  The original "Mother Tree" is 300 years old and grows just outside the Shi Tou Jiao village (a higher elevation village).

This is a lovely middle mountain (中山) elevation Mi Lan Xiang (蜜兰香) from Da An village, grown at an altitude of roughly 900 meters from decades old tea bushes.

Ye Lai Xiang Dan Cong Oolong tea is considered a rare tea because it is not widely cultivated.  Processing style is green with short roasting times to coax out the Night Blooming Jasmine aroma that it carries.

Leaf size is largish, processing style is light wither and low temp short roasts.  Tea soup is yellow-gold, thick bodied, and highly infusable.

Strong and thick tea, golden yellow tea soup, powerful honey and "Ye Lai" aroma.  Perfect balance of sweet, bitter, floral and umami with a long lasting mouth-feeling.  Cha Qi is powerful and clean.

A Pleasant, Complex Oolong

"The appearance of this tea is not all that different from other Dan Cong oolongs I have tried.. The color of the dried leaves appears darker than they really are once wet and unfurled. The dry leaf aroma is floral and sweet with roasted notes. More a combination that makes one think of Autumn or Winter holidays rather than Spring or Summer. When wet, the aroma, while still floral, takes on some baked fruit aroma although it is difficult for me to place what specific fruit. 1st Infusion (6 g, 100 mL, 20 seconds, 195 deg, brief wash): A light amber colored infusion. Not viscous or thick in body. The aroma of the liquor is floral and a little fruity. Upon tasting it, the first thing that hits my tongue are the flavors from the roasting process. It is sweet (hints of honey), and sort of reminds you an appealing roasted side dish for dinner. Unlike some other Dan Cong oolongs I have, the fruity/floral notes do not linger on the finish as long with this tea. A little bit of astringency but no bitterness. 2nd Infusion (6 g, 25 seconds, 195 deg): A bit darker in color. The flavor is a bit more earthy this infusion Same sweet, floral, fruity notes as before are still mixed in. Noticeably more astringency, too. It is a very pleasant tea to drink. The flavor still does not linger as much as other Dan Cong’s, but it is by no means a tea that disappears by the time you swallow it. 3rd Infusion (6 g, 25 seconds, 180 deg): Same trend as before. There seems to be a hint of spice mixed in on this infusion. Still very pleasant and complex to drink. I can tell that this complexity and intensity of flavor is not likely to drop off anytime soon. This is a tea that can be infused more than three times. The flavor keeps trending away from floral and sweet towards more earthy notes for me, but it is still nice to drink. It does not have the intensity of specific flavors like other Dan Cong’s. That is okay, though, because its complexity of flavor carries on throughout the infusions. This tea does not become a single note tea by infusion four."

earthy and sweet

"I was surprised by how earthy this tea is. Yes, it does have floral qualities to it - I get a nice bouquet of flowers that remind me of jasmine, lotus, orchid, gardenia, and even a hint of nectar amidst them, but it all comes back to an earthy body that is deeply invigorating and soothing. Maybe that's the word I'm looking for. This tea is very soothing. It has a cooling property to it that reminds me of menthol, without having any minty taste to it. The earthiness of this tea is such that you can feel the terroir. I love it. This tea definitely has umami - and I think this quality is created from the natural sweetness of this tea combined with a light processing style that really brings the qualities of this tea forward without transforming them too much. You can feel the essence of the fresh leaf from the first cup to the last, and this is something worth trying - if not for the unique and captivating flavor profiles, then for the expert-level processing techniques that have created it."
