A premium tippy blend from Menghai Tea Factory!  Aged in Kunming since it's release in 2011, this satisfying ripe pu-erh tea has lost all it's wet pile taste and is smooth, sweet, earthy and spicy!  Very nice tea, and an excellent price as well for a semi-aged Da Yi ripe production.

Menghai Tea Factory (勐海茶叶厂): Menghai Tea Factory was formally established in 1940 by a group of over 90 tea professionals with origins from all over China. It is possibly the oldest specialized tea factory in Yunnan Province. Because of this, it has a solid reputation that is well respected by Pu-erh tea enthusiasts. It is located in Menghai county of Xishuangbanna (西双版纳) prefecture, which is renowned for being one of the birthplaces of Chinese tea culture. They were one of the first two tea factories (along with the Kunming Tea Factory) to come up with the 'wodui' (渥堆) method of ripening pu'er tea in 1973, and have a series of recipes that are undisputed as some of the finest ripened Pu-erh teas available. Formerly under the umbrella of the state-run CNNP, they went fully private in 1996 and adopted the 'dayi' (大益) logo. 'Dayi' means 'great benefit', which is meant to point out the great benefit that tea has on the body, the spirit, and human relationships.

Good

"Good pu-erh, really smooth and easy to drink, not bitter. Gives a nice light boost, helps you feel more focused, and has a warm, relaxing feel. Great for everyday tea."

not bad but not that great either

"As much as I had hoped to, I can't give this tea a 5 star rating. Compared to some other ripes here at YS, the price range on this cake has shown itself consistently over the many sessions I have had with this cake in the mean time. At a range of 36 USD or a 9 year old tea, it's no surprise that the tea is ok but not great. This can be a daily drinker, but I believe that the sweetness fades away rather quickly, after about 4 or maybe 5 steeps, only the earthy and charcoal tones are left in the liquor. There's a rather strong taste in the tea as well that I can't put my finger on, something similar I had experienced in another raw puerh before that seemed striking to me. I can't say what it is, but if you are accustomed to strong brews then this flavor tends to overtake the entire palet and diminish the other flavors move to the background. I suggest brewing this lightly and at lower temperatures to bring out the best flavors of this tea. Good, but not that great."

I'm No Expert In Tea

"I'm no expert in tea, but I drink tons-o-pu-erh and don't really care too much about the quality overall, but the drink-ability of tea is vital to life, so if the tea is cheap junk, but highly drinkable, it is good enough. This is a sincere cake that is an honest pu-erh that upholds it's promise as an ideal cake - noble and consistent, like 'jade.' So, anyway, I must drink tea and often up to 50+ grams and well over a gallon-o-tea a day! Luckily I can drink anything, but this cake was pleasurable and memorable. I notice when a cake disappears quicker than usual and I am surpassing my 3 cake a month quota easily. (36+ cakes a year? Whoa...) This cake has a nice rejuvenating quality that removed fatigue with its rich taste and deeply thirst quenching aromatic lift that makes it easy to keep on drinking and lubricating - like 'dew.' I usually do 15-25 gram pyrex-pots of pu-erh and bozo-bigfoot-gong-fooing twice a day. I think I got a half gallon out of each pot of 'jade dew' and could go really far along to killing the leaf. But for some reason I got upset like I usually do. I think the reason I got upset was because it's all gone very quickly, maybe I was pulling 25+ gram pots which is why I think this cake was gone in a few short weeks in my rotation. What a complete disappointment to be so satisfied!"
