Hui Long Zhai lies in the western part of the county of Teng Chong (Bao Shan Prefecture), a mountainous region with peaks as high as 3000 meters bordering Myanmar.  Relatively cool weather and high altitude conditions makes this one of the latest picked "first flush" teas in Yunnan, it is picked in the late part of April and in September. Buds and leaves are picked together just as they sprout and are then wok-fired by hand for a very short time but at a high temperature.  The result is a tea with longer shelf life, and more importantly a high level of aroma when brewed!  This tea is nutty with a fast huigan, but is a little more bitter and stimulating than Simao area green teas!  My personal new favorite green tea!  A good choice for a morning wake up brew or a brief departure from raw pu-erh!

Solid Yunnan Green Tea

"Refreshing green tea that is nutty, buttery, and umami. Based on the description above, I was prepared for raw puerh-like bitterness, but to me it’s just as bold as any other Yunnan green tea. Similar in character to Mengku Pine Needles and Menghai Buddha Aroma."

"Great Everyday tea"

From Melon and Peach to Muscat Notes

"This is an exceptionally fine green tea. Its yellowish-green, slightly amber hue is already captivating. Even the dry leaves are fragrant — it is hard not to notice. The tea easily withstands seven or more infusions, beginning with 70 °C water and later using 80 °C for the final steeps. The initial infusions yield a very aromatic, strongly fruity tea. Its flavor reminds me of honeydew melon and peach — almost like a fruit tea. In the later infusions, the profile shifts toward a less acidic, muscat-grape, wine-like character. At times, I feel as if I were sipping a fruity, aromatic wine — naturally without alcohol, but with an invigorating effect. However, for those who prefer teas with grassy, nutty, or more floral notes with berries, this is not the tea to choose. For me, though, this is currently one of my favorite green teas!"

Had to do a double take

"At first glance, this tea might not seem all too attractive but try brewing it gonfu style, steep it double the time then pour it over a glass of ice."
