The name of this tea is not only perfectly descriptive of the tea but also a tongue twister!  Try saying it quickly over and over again!

This is a lightly aged Pure Purple Bud pick from the Jinggu area of Simao (Yunnan Province). The tea is fried (kill-green), withered and sun-dried like pu-erh tea (but without the rolling), allowing for a tea that be successfully aged in open air (like pu-erh tea).  This tea was aged from Spring 2015 until Spring 2018 in a warm and moist Jinggu warehouse in a large sack.

The light aging has given this tea an incredibly complex and unique plum flavor. It's sweet and fruity, but also ever so slightly sour in the mouth.  Very thick and soupy, this lubricates the mouth and throat with a pleasant fruitiness.  Can be steeped 5 to 7 times gong fu style, we recommend using 90-95C water.

Four steeps to endless sweetness

"Early 30 second steeps are notable for mushroomy/sawdust aroma with a surprisingly sweet chocolate flavor on the tongue that resolves into a juicy astringency. However by the fourth steep (2 minutes) the tea is giving way to an incredible long vegetal finish that freshens and dries the whole mouth and leaves behind a green-mango sweetness long after the cup is finished. I am thrilled with this tea."

mild tea

"very mild tea, mild flavor - and... mellow caffein delivery (imagine that). I don't feel experienced enough to give a detailed tea review with specifics - but I do like this tea. I think I like it a little bit more than the 2020 Purple Voodoo. Generally I like tea bit more robust to start a day (like an Assamica black), so this may end up being for days I start drinking tea later in the day - or the rare day I wear out my morning leaves and need something fresh"

Jinggu purple tea

"I have become an ardent drinker of purple tea. The Jinggu is lovely and ranks high as my favorite purple from Dehong. I will order it again. Thank you as always for bringing these outstanding teas to us. I have given your site to people all over the US."

Super unique

"Ok, this tea is completely unlike any other tea I tried. Dry leaf smells, frankly, unpleasant - like blue cheese and dirty feet, caught me completely off guard. Wet leaf gets more fruity notes, mainly a distinct cooked pear fragrance, but the unpleasant notes remain, making me a bit hesitant to drink it. The soup, however, is a lot different. Very light and clear with a slight purple/pink hue. Taste is distinctly dried plums (not fresh), but not really sweet. The texture reminds me more of white tea (like silver needles). Very lubricating and oily. There's a bit of aged taste and a tiny amount of TGY-like sourness. Slightest hint of bitterness. Overall a nice tea, but quite unusual."

Q&A

Is this considered a black tea or a puerh?
It's not black tea, but it's mellowed quite a bit and might have some sweetness that black tea has.
