A lovely old arbor (古树白茶) white tea cake made from Autumn 2022 tea harvested from 80-300 year old tea trees in Man Gang village (Bang Dong, Lincang), and then blended with tea flowers 茶花 from the same garden!

We have been working closely with a family in Man Gang for several years now and have asked them to help us pick and process a white tea and blend with tea flowers from the same garden from their old arbor family tea garden! The result is a lightly processed and sun-dried white tea that is delicious to drink, sweet and thick, aromatic, and bubbling with cha qi!

This lovely tea was pressed into a 250 gram tea cake with a medium+ level of compression to lock in the aroma and flavors of tea, allowing for a gradual aging over time.  You can store like you would a pu-erh cake (and can be stored alongside raw pu-erh or black tea cakes), or if you prefer it to stay the way it is you can seal it up.  Ideally a clay jar or wooden box with some/minimal air flow would be best!  We do recommend that you store in a low humidity environment to prevent the hatching of larvae.  No pesticides were used on the tea or tea flowers which means that if the cake is stored in high heat and high humidity it could lead to larvae hatching on the tea flowers. If stored properly this will not happen.  We recommend keeping it below 25C temp and below 60% RH.

Interesting white tea, curious to see how it ages

"Over all I would describe this as a decent and fun tea. For people new to white tea, the tea itself is decent and the tea flowers add an additional somewhat unique sweetness to the tea. Lacks the subtlety of higher quality whites. Specifics: The tea is consistent across steeps. Smell is a fruity, nectar sweetness and has the classical “white tea” notes. The toast is also consistent, between steeps it held up well although it can trend bitter if you run your water temp too (85c for 50+ s was best for me gong fu). There is a powerful sweetness to the tea with a nice mouthfeel and a hint of acidity. I think this is worth trying if you want something a bit different. I bought a cake mostly as it was good enough to drink again, and I am primarily interested in seeing how it ages. Give it a try. Also remember, most reviews on this website overstate the quality so tak my three stars as an endorsement"

Oh yeah

"This is a really nice surprise - not just a good white tea but floral in a good way, sophisticated, special"

Exceeded expectations

"Admittedly, since this is a blend of tea and flowers, my knee-jerk assumption was that this is white tea not good enough to be drunk on it's own, hence the mixing. Boy was I wrong! The mouthfeel is very stimulating and the body is quite thick. The aroma is pretty strong (I'm guessing because of the flowers). I do recommend using a filter on this one because a lot of the flower bits float to the top of the brew. I actually think this is the best white tea I've had from YS. Good job Scott and XY! :)"

Distinctive, earthy sweetness

"The first thing that stands out to me with this cake is in prying the leaves, that the flowers seem to make the cake more elastic to pry, coming off more in chunks than flaky layers, which is interesting in and of itself. Without the reference of the non-flowered cake to compare, I can't say I know exactly what the tea flowers bring to the soup and I don't pick-up any forward floral notes. Perhaps to the contrary, I find a distinctive, earthy, oxidized sweetness, while still tasting 'young', with the soup itself leaning into light orange which seems to fit the profile. I'd say this tea seems to have more in common with an aged white tea, having overall more body that the typical fresh white. Yet, it pleasantly retains the mouth coating nature to it's sweetness which I more associate with good, fresh whites. Very nice!"
