This is a premium Lapsang Souchong (smoked Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) black tea harvested from old plantation bushes in the Wu Yi area of Fujian. The tea was expertly processed by the traditional process and then smoked using cured pine and oak wood to impart a unique smoky character. That smoky taste coupled with the natural sweetness of this lovely black tea makes for an unforgettable experience!

VERY Smoky

"This tea is EXGREMELY smoky. I am not super experienced with lapsang souchongs, but I think this might be a bit *too* smoky for me. It isn't bad or undrinkable, but the first 3-4 steeps smell and taste exactly like a campfire with little to no complexity. The character of the leaves, and not the smoke, begins to reaveal itself in the second half of the tea session, where you get the classic red tea maltiness, but you still get a fair does of smokiness in these steeps as well. I think if the complexity were a bit more pronounced from earlier steeps (maybe steep 2/3?), I would have given this 5 stars. I don't think I'll order this partiuclar tea again, as I would prefer to find a few different lapsang souchong teas to compare this one to to see if I can pinpoint exactly which flavors and types of complexities are most desirable to me in these teas. But don't get me wrong, the leaf quality is high and the flavor is pleasant, even a bit comforting if you grew up camping. I would recommend it to anyone interested in this type of tea!"
