Buddha Grotto Wood-Fired Kiln Clay Teapot
Artistry meets ancient Chinese History. There are grottos all over China containing life-like statues of Bodhidharma and other early Chan Buddhist figures (like Sengcan and Hongren), as well Shakyamuni.
This teapot was created with a combination of molding and hand-work. Special attention was given to the creation of the carved "bas relief" motif which gives this teapot an ancient and esoteric uniqueness. Firing was done with a wood burning kiln, which further adds a dramatic uniqueness to each piece.
The teapot is made from Nixing (Qin Zhou) clay with some sand admixture to make it porous, and as such it can be seasoned and should be dedicated to one type of tea. (See our video here on seasoning clay teapots).
