This year we decided to ask the grower of our very tasty Wild Tree Purple Moonlight White Tea from Jinggu to harvest tea from the same trees and bushes as the white tea, but to process it into a black tea instead! We sell several Wild Tree "Ye Sheng" Purple Black teas but I think due to the unique character of this particular garden, this tea is really special and deserves your attention! If you enjoyed the white tea from this garden we think you'll find this tea's thick muscat grape-like fruitiness and thick mouth-feel a welcome addition to your tea collection.

Worth the money!

"This tea is wonderful , but the bag had a small hole up where it seals and so a little bit of the magic airs out. . Other than that it is a great tea and is very aromatic. . ."

A sunshine in a cup

"This is exactly the kind of tea I’ve been hoping for. It leans gently sweet without being cloying, with soft floral and subtle woody notes. The flavor is layered but approachable - not flat, not overwhelming. It smells and feels like sunshine in a cup, reminds me of evening in a summer house. The liquor has a pleasant, light color, and even with longer infusions it never turns bitter. It holds up beautifully for 4–5 steeps. An easy, genuinely enjoyable tea."

Similar but different

"This one is quite interesting, with classic dark tea notes, but at least for me, grapefruit smell/taste notes with a sweet finish. Imho, it's rather similar to Purple Varietal "Yue Guang Bai" White Tea of Dehong that I've also bought from YS in terms of the citrus notes, but of course, different as the white's sweeter of course. Equally, the "wild" expected notes found in other black teas I've found in this tea so in conclusion, it's an interesting mix, especially given the citrusy flavour that I'm more commonly finding on whites/greens. Worth trying - may be used for daily drinking. Giving it 4 stars as I've expected more steeping power with time, but it tends to fade around 5th iteration. (80 ml gaywan @ 95 Celsius , 4 grams - 15,25,40,1 min, 1+)"

Definitely give this a try

"First purple tea I’ve had. Big jammy/fruit preserve notes. Very fragrant, with deeper fruit notes. Texture is rich and luxurious, coating the entire mouth very well and lingers for quite a while. I immediately bought a few hundred grams right after tasting; this tea may or may not be coming back next year. Interested to see how it ages. I do 6-7g in a 100ml gaiwan, with ~200F water and flash steeps for the first few infusions. No need to discard the first infusion here. Add ~5 seconds to each afterwards. Zero astringency or bitterness when brewed this way which I like, although you can push this tea a little harder if you prefer that (also brings out some interesting flavors, almost spiced? Not sure how else to describe it). Steeped/unsteeped leaves make for excellent cold brew also… And at around 22 cents per gram (bought in larger quantities) I think this is an excellent tea!"

Very interesting tea

"First purple tea I've tried, haven't had anything like this so far. Reminds me of some white teas but without the more vegetal notes. Strong mid notes, taste reminds me of berry/grape preserves. Great mouthfeel that coats well and lingers. Very fragrant! Hopefully they bring this back again, I bought a few hundred grams just in case. Interested to see how this will age. I prefer ~7 grams in 100ml gaiwan, 200 F water, flash steeps for the first few and then adding ~3-5 seconds per steep. Zero bitterness and astringency when brewed this way. Lasts many steeps for my taste with the first 5-6 being especially good. Steeped/unsteeped leaves also make for excellent cold brew. . ."
