In Autumn 2013 we visited several areas of Lincang, including Mengku and Yong De counties. Our famous "Mu Shu" pu-erh from old arbor tea trees has been a favorite among customers since 2011. This spring we decided to ask a local tea master to process tea picked from the old arbor (100-200 years old) tea trees that we used to make our 2011-2017 Mu Shu Cake. The tea was picked, briefly wilted, fried, then wilted again for about 24 hours before being dried in the shade. 

The brewed tea is floral and sweet with a nice bitter and astringent mouth-feel to bring it into balance. Thick stout leaves and stems with prominent large buds make this tea very infusable. A sure bet for aging over the years, it will develop many rich textures and nuances.

Beautiful Old Arbor tea

"Amazing black tea, wide range of brew options (gong fu or grandpa), difficult to over-brew this one, does well at 200f for 3-4 mins in pitcher at 5-7g per 100-150ml, if you like weaker tea, dial the dose down to 5g at 150ml, if strong tea is your jam, go 7g at 100ml and enjoy the aroma, taste, and smooth yet deep cha qi. 212f will bring out the astringency, 205f has been the highest i'll go for brewing gong fu or grandpa. Many re-brews in this one, especially if gong fu'd with short steeps (200f at 10s rinse, then 1st brew at 200f at 10s, 15s, 20s, 30s, 45s, 1 min, 1:30min, etc. ) I also blend this 50/50 with another excellent YS black tea (Yunnan black gold Bi Luo Chun) and you get fa loral and chocolate bomb of a tea combo. Pricey but worth every cent, grateful that the folks at YS in Yunnan and at YunnanUSA make excellent teas like this available. If you're on the fence on this one, move forward and get some of this."

Tasting notes: Very complex and satisfying taste, I feel strong notes of deep wet pine forest combined with dark fruit sweetness Body sensation: calming, yet very good during working hours as gives you energy and power. "Love Yunnan Sourcing. Not every tea is a winner, but many are! The Mu Shu Hong is a nice one for black tea drinkers that like a little more of the floral brightness over the maltier sweetness of a Jin Jun Mei or Bai Lin Gong... but all are really good choices from YS"
