Made entirely from Jingmai mountain area raw pu-erh tea.  Entirely 2016 spring harvest tea was processed through a special decoction process this concentrated pu-erh tea cha gao was made.  They were then warmed to make soft and pressed into these lovely 0.5 gram single serving cha gao bricks!

Simply put one in a cha hai, cup, or thermos and pour hot over it.  Shake or agitate the cha gao and it will start to diffuse.  Very nice smooth and aromaric Jingmai pu-erh taste.  Very special and high quality cha gao!

Roughly 0.5 grams each.

Cha Gao - Instant Pu-erh Tea Resin 茶膏 : This specialty of Yunnan province uses a technique to take the liquid from the tea leaves and then solidifies the liquid into shapes which can easily be dissolved in water to make tea. 'Cha Gao' literally means 'tea paste', and this technique evolved from a process developed in the Tang 唐 and Song 宋 dynasties, while the process of making Pu-erh Cha Gao in particular was enhanced and perfected during the Qing 清 dynasty, which was considered to be the pinnacle of 'cha gao' quality. Unfortunately, imperial techniques employed during the Qing dynasty were lost with the collapse of the Qing dynasty in 1911, and attempts to revive the industry in subsequent decades fell short and the practice of making tea-paste practically vanished. Now, with modern technology it is possible to produce tea-paste that is of similar quality to that which was produced during the Qing dynasty. When preparing, use one unit per 500 ml of water and pour the water over the unit little by little to allow it time to completely dissolve; some cha gao also require that they be placed into water that has already been poured.

good stuff

"love this tea, great for drinking on the go - i use it at work as i have a very active job and hardly get time to sit down let alone brew tea properly! only wish i had bought more of it. this is my favourite of the cha gao types."

Convenient!

"A convenient bit of tea to take on the go! The water needed to melt the cha gao also doesn't need to be that hot, so can pour the water in and drink almost immediately after it gets to the desired strength. (I used 175F. ) It seems like the bit of tea can go for a lonnnng time. I kinda wish they offered even smaller pieces. I don't really drink sheng pu-er so no comments on the taste, but it does seem a bit more cloudy than tea brewed from leaves. Unsure if that is unique to sheng pu-er or if it is unique to cha gao. My 10g packet was equivalent to 14 pcs of cha gao."

Great taste, but lacks that smooth mouth feel

"Tasted very good, earthy, bit like rice. It is also very convenient to take with you, for example in a thermos. However, this is still tea that has been cooked to the max, which you can feel. It tastes great, but it feels (mouthfeel) like a regular teabag lacking viscosity, but it is exactly what you're buying so be warned. Tastes great, but with mouthfeel of teabag tea."

Great "instant" tea

"For my initial purchase I bought both the "Ripe" as well as the "Raw" Jingmai Mountain Pu-erh tea Cha Gao Instant tea to to see which one I would like best. I had expected to prefer the "Raw" because it is less processed and has a much longer tradition dating back hundreds of years. However, it turns out the "Ripe" ends up being my preferred tea of choice. It helps me feel calm, focused with good energy. The "Raw" is obviously a great tea as well but not quite the optimal one for me."
