Shuangjiang Mengku Tea factory the most famous tea factory in the Lincang area of south-western Yunnan has produced this cake for a second year. The leaves used are all from Wild (not ancient) trees from the "Big Snow Mountain" a mountain that tops out at 3,200 meters above sea level, making it the highest mountain in Lincang county. Lincang is synonymous with high quality material used to make Raw Pu-erhs and such famous producers as Xiaguan and Nanjian and of the course the CNNP have used leaves taken from these areas.

This cake has a mellow character but with a sort of spicy/nutty golden yellow liquor. Recent years have proven that the wild trees of this variety will age well. Mengku no longer produces this cake, the last year of production was 2006.

Producer: Shuangjiang Mengku
Vintage: April 2006
Production area: Big Snow Mountain of Lincang

Strong astringency with this tea!

"Strong astringency with this tea! I found it most enjoyable brewed at 200 degrees to mellow it out a little. Still really enjoyed it though."

A spicy meatball! Not literally.

"8 gm/ 150 ml @ 98C. This is a really nice puerh, that's particularly spice forward. It's very clean without any mustiness. It has nice sweetness and mild pleasant bitterness with a bit of camphor and wood. It is excellent to drink now as a mid-aged puerh. It's a medium in terms of body. A fairly forgiving tea relative to similar aged spring shengs I've tried. Not the longest lasting tea, but can easily deliver 8 solid infusions."

Becomes wonderfully sweet with age

"I had bought that tea cake here in 2012 and it was already quite delicious, but with still some bitterness and astringency. Now, after 6 more years aging in Paris conditions (40% humidity) its like a sweet. A very fruity taste, a very long hui gan, no more bitterness at all and a sugar-like sweet feeling in the mouth."

That's the good stuff!

"This is exactly my kind of jam! The steaming bouquet offers such a beautiful thick mouth watering sensation which already predicts an unforgettable tea session to come. Beside that major aspects are definitely a certain type of woodsy ham smokiness which reminds me a bit of a light smoked cranberry ham and some kind of mineral iron content like if the water was actually boiled in a high end Tetsubin cast iron pot. Taste-wise it moves into a similar direction but with additive nuances of leather, camphor and my beloved aged Agarwood flavor! Within the following seconds and minutes the aftertaste never seems to fade and transforms into a more nutty region with hints of walnuts and a clear note of chestnuts. But also a nice ripe fruity layer of pear skin plus a tiny note of cheery blossoms shows up on the scene. The thick liquor leaves a certain dry feel within the throat behind. Telling the story of the following infusions is like telling a story of the past and the future because there is a lot staying at the same deliciously level as it did before at least for the next couple of infusions to come but also a stronger tendency towards fruitier and slightly field floral notes. Its only weakness is its durability - the first four infusions are the strongest while 5-6 are also still good and with a lot to discover but with the 8th infusion it really arrived at its zenith. But in my case I highly enjoyed this buddy :) More Reviews & Photos at https://www.instagram.com/zerozen_artlab/"
