Xinghai tea factory of Menghai is one of the classic producers of Ripe Pu-erh tea.  This tea was pressed from high grade Gong Ting and 1st grade fermented tea from 2008.  This has been aged for almost 10 years now in a Kunming dry storage condition.  The wet pile taste is gone and this tea really shines!  Thick and pungent dried fruit taste with lingering sweetness.  The tea soup is clear and an out of this world burgundy red-brown color!

My favorite Shou to date

"This was a BOGO tea from my recent order. I am not very experienced with Shou Pu-erh, but this is the favorite of the three I've tried. It certainly has a lot in common with the others in having a very distinctive earthy, musty aroma, very dark color, but very low astringency and no acid or bitterness in the middle. I made about 8 infusions with this tea, and I tended to enjoy it more in the later infusions than in the earlier ones. It has a very strong qi that took me by surprise, considering how mellow the tea is. Be careful! :) Not a very useful review, but, as I said, I am still trying to 'get' shou pu-erh -it's really the one style of tea I have trouble understanding, even though I like other hei cha and shing (maybe too much for my wallet's health :) )"

Solid

"This is a great cake for the price. Small bud material. Very dark brew. Sweet, with no wet pile taste. On 4th infusion.... Smells are very comforting. Soup is med-thick. Qi present. Mild oaky-like grip. Lingering hui gan. Getting a kind of Raisinete flavor. The 4th infusion is just as dark as #2. Tea pets (bunnies) are very happy about it."

Very Satisfying

"When I touch my pu-erh knife to the cake the leaves easily fall away and jump into the pot. And I easily do 10 gram pots with several 5 sec brews which carry me about a third the way through the day. Upon drinking I find a unique sweet fruity fungal flavor that quickly lifts off and gives way to a meaty thick broth with just enough wispy astringency that makes one seek another sip and it starts all over again. Easily keeps the cups pouring. Not too tricky to achieve."
