This is a lightly processed black tea that was hand-crafted using a wild tree purple leaf varietal from Dehong prefecture. Ye Sheng "野生“ varietal aka "Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze var. assamica (J. Masters) Kitam." is a primeval varietal that pre-dates Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica and is a naturally occurring non hybridized varietal. It's potency in cha qi arises from its unadulterated nature. It is naturally bug repellent and grows wild in the forests of Yunnan at an altitude of 1600-2200 meters.

The aroma of tea is very strong and hints of eucalyptus and sugarcane.  The bottom of the cup after drinking hints of dry red wine!  The mouth feel is incredibly complex and stimulating with some slight bitterness and astringency.  Ultra smooth tea that after a few months will develop even more complexity.  Very noticeable cha qi that heats up the body and hot day might cause the drinker to sweat a bit!

How is this tea different from the other Wild Tree Purple Varietal from Dehong that we sell:

- Processing and roasting uses less time and less heat

- The "ye sheng" varietal of tea used is more obvious

- Hints of Wu Yi Shan oolong in the aroma and mouth-feel

- More bitterness

- More aggressive cha qi

An incredibly rare tea made entirely from first flush spring material

One of the best black teas Ive had

"Im new to the site, and new to ordering higher end Chinese teas, so take my review with a grain of salt. This was my favorite tea that I ordered. It is incredibly flavorful. It has a certain taste that I've found in other wild teas, but along with it is a rich profile of fruity and vegetal flavors."

Lovely.

"Loving the floral smell, a delicious tea. I would give it a solid 4. 5/5"

Stunning tea

"This is the most complex and exciting black tea I've ever tasted. It came in Scott's Provate Stash Black Tea Sampler. As soon as I opened the pouch and gave it a smell I knew I was in for a treat--ripe stone fruits and earthiness. This is the fruitless tea I've ever tasted. I do first two steeps at 190f. They flavor os bright, juicy and makes me think ripe peaches and raspberries, with a nice nutty base and mid body. The tea soup is a goregous orange/red and crystal clear. I up to 195 for the 3rd where you get more body. It goes 5-7 steps with each round a new layer until it mellows out. Absolutely stunning tea. Can't wait to order more!"

Great purple tea for the price

"Very impressed with this given the cost. Nice floral oolong notes, a bit of green vegitility, a hint of roastiness, soft tannins. Excessive steeping does not produce astringency."

A lovely tea with very strong qi

"I was torn about ordering this tea, but I'm glad I did, it's fabulous! Lots of fruity notes, but with some good depth. I don't taste any astringency at all, and the flavor is just lovely. I didn't taste any of the astringency that people remarked on, I would not consider that a deciding factor."

Not quite there for me

"Flavorful and certainly very pleasant, but I find it a little 'shallow', or like I am wringing out a washcloth trying to get _more_ out of this tea (in my mouth). I will enjoy finishing what I have, but will not re-order."

Purple black tea

"I love this tea so much ! The taste and aroma are very good with some nice roasty fruit notes. The color is not quite purple but that's okay since it's so good all around! I'm looking forward to seeing how the flavor changes overtime!"

Just beautiful

"This tea is just beautiful. It's floral, with a deep flavor that lingers. I love it!"
