This expertly fermented black tea was crafted using a wild tree purple leaf varietal from Feng Qing area of Lincang prefecture.  This wild tree varietal grows wild in the mountainous areas west of Feng Qing township near the Da Si village at an altitude of 2000-2200 meters.

Ye Sheng "野生“ varietal aka "Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze var. assamica (J. Masters) Kitam." is a primeval varietal that pre-dates Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica and is a naturally occurring non-hybridized varietal. Its potency in cha qi arises from its unadulterated nature. It is naturally bug repellent and grows wild in the forests of Yunnan at an altitude of 1600-2200 meters.

A very lightly wilted and processed tea, the green in the leaves is still present and the tea soup is a golden yellow color, much different from the Dehong Wild tree black tea that we also offer.  There is a hint of fruit, chocolate and barrel aged rum in the taste and aroma.  An exquisite experience!

An incredibly rare tea, only 70 kilograms in total production!

Tropical ice tea flavor

"I have tried 9 YN sourcing black teas and this one stands out. Finally, one that doesn't have this hay-ish dominant note. This reminds me of the peach iced tea they sell in supermarkets. It has this tropical fruit flavors and this fruity sourness to it. Peach, passion fruit, hint of chocolate. It leaves a pleasant aroma in your mouth/throat. This tea taste almost like a heavy oxidized oolong to me. It has those oolong properties. I think I will reorder this one"

Very unique!

"A really unique black tea that impresses everyone I have shared it with. It has lovely long strips of leaves, and lasts for a good amount of infusions. Nose: peach candy and mango Wet leaf: molasses, rye Taste: fruit juice, lemon cake, brown bread Color: chestnut brown and clear"

"Everything arrived perfectly secure, even the ceramic cups were intact. I also recieved a free bonus bag of tea. Thank you to Trevor Cornell from the customer service team for handling any issues with my package."

Incredible flavor!!

"I had to buy 100 grams my second time purchasing because 25 grams didn't last long enough. The flavor is unique, like a juice almost? A sweet/mildly sour black tea. I'm obsessed, and this is probably my new favorite."

Julia (5/5)

Very surprising

"I haven't tried a large amount of black teas, probably between 20 and 30 somewhere, but this is easily the standout tea for me. I have never smelled a black like it; floral, fruity, tiny hint of chocolate, strong blackcurrant too and it tastes very similar to how it smells. Unreal man, if i didn't know this was black tea i don't know if i'd have been able to tell by the scent alone. 10/10"

Q&A

What's the ideal temp for steeping this tea?
Check out our brewing guide here: https://yunnansourcing.com/pages/brewing-guide-for-green-black-oolong-and-pu-erh-teas
What makes this a purple tea?
The original Purple tea is called "Wild Purple" or "Ye Sheng" Purple tea. The varietal is referred to as Assamica Dehongensis. Ye Sheng tea is very bitter when young but ages quickly and develops great complexity with age. It was originally processed into mao cha and sold as a kind of Raw Pu-erh tea, but more recently has been processed into Black tea with incredible results!
