Take a flight to the one of the Famous Tea Factories Yunnan, CNNP! Taste a curated selection of samples from CNNP Aged Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cakes and develop an appreciation for the distinct aroma, flavor and mouthfeel of these amazing teas.

Pu-erh tea is made from Yunnan large-leaf varietal of Camellia Sinensis. It is typically processed into compressed cakes, bricks and tuos. Pu-erh is particularly special because it can be aged for decades or longer, always changing and (in most cases) developing more depth and texture. Ripe Pu-erh (熟茶) is fermented during a 40-50 day period under-going a mellowing process that changes the tea into something dark red-brown in color.

CNNP (中茶) : CNNP (China National Native Produce & Animal By-Products Import & Export company) was the original state-run enterprise that managed all of the major tea factories in Yunnan, including Menghai, Xiaguan, Kunming, among others. Most of these were privatized in the 1980s and 1990s, but CNNP runs under the label 'Chinatea' and still uses the original red and green '中茶' logo. This red and green logo is perhaps the longest-used logo in the Pu-erh tea world. Now it is said that CNNP is trying to make a comeback and are mostly focused on direct competition with the Menghai Tea Factory.

Great quality and value

"Wonderful selection of tea, well packaged. It's all delicious! Great value."

Mixed Bag

"This sampler was exactly what I was hoping for, when I was looking to sample a wide range of aged ripe. Out of the five samples, I loved two (1990 9016 and 1998 Lucky Brand), thought two were mediocre (1999 Old Tree and 1996 Green Mark), and though one was poor (2005 1938 Anniversary). All that said, the price seems reasonable for the selection and I'm not sure I could have done any better combing through the vast options of aged ripe and hand selecting samples myself."

All good, easy to brew and drink teas

"This sampler was my first purchase from Yunnan Sourcing, and I was pleased overall. The order arrived quicker than expected. All the teas were individually packaged in sealed bags and labeled. I found that Old Tree had the deepest aroma, which came through in the flavor. I think the 1990 "9016" had the strongest, but pleasant, cha qi. For me, the all around best was the 2005 "1938 Anniversary" because it had more notes in the aroma and seemed to be less compacted. None of the teas had an unpleasant fishy aroma or flavor, and I even drank the first rinse to fully experience the teas. I was expecting a bit more variety in flavor among the teas, but I still very much enjoyed them."

Great Experience

"I have never tasted Pu-erh quite like these. A wonderful sampler of wonderful teas. My favorites were https://yunnansourcing.com/products/1990-cnnp-9016-aged-ripe-pu-erh-tea-tuo-cha and https://yunnansourcing.com/products/1996-cnnp-green-mark-te-ji-ripe-pu-erh-tea-cake. Both are so rich with density of flavor."

Educational

"As a newbie pu-erh tea drinker I enjoyed the suspense of the experience. The samples were neatly presented and all of them worth the tasting. Some I enjoyed, others were, to me, too intense or monotonous as a flavour. I am grateful for the chance I was offered to taste five altogether excellent teas. The 1999 brick I found best, the 1990 CNNP "9016" too intensely earthy and not much else, while the rest were just fine."
