This Yi Wu region harvested tea was wet piled in Menghai in 2001 and then aged in baskets in a Guangdong dry storage condition in Dongguan. The result is a well aged ripe that is still clean and potent, without wet pile taste, but also lacking any wet storage notes!

The taste has notes of dried fruit, old camphor wood, and five spice. There is also a "chen xiang" that can only really be described as "aged taste", which is unique to aged pu-erh and is particularly prominent in dry aged pu-erh teas!

Each basket contains roughly 500 grams of tea!

We also sell a 1999 Basket Aged Pu-erh Ripe Pu-erh Tea from Menghai that was Kunming stored.

***These baskets were packed many years ago and the weight varies from basket to basket. Please do not expect exactly 500g. These are being sold "as is."

Smokey Spicy Camphor

"At first I smelld it and smells sweet, I brew it on my sama doyo 400ml thermo (lately I'm brewing most of my Shou this way). I eyeballed it around 6-8 g and let it brew with boiling water for 2h 30m. At first sip it reminds me other aged teass, something like an old book on a old humid house (if that has any sense) it reminds me my grandmother house and those old books. Apart from the memories it evoque, the taste is not my favourite but. . . the aftertaste is great, I can't feel an aftertaste is most teas, but this one has a spicy and balsamic aftertaste that made me return to this tea 3 days in a row (yep I usually change the tea every day). Also I usually let the leves in the termo and add water again for an evening tea. To my surprise it remains enought fuel and the taste was smooth, but noticeable and the afteraste was also present, but this time the taste was like the old smoky sheng I've tasted years ago on my tea journey. I strongly recommend this tea even when I prefer younger ripe taste (5-10 years), because it's well balanced, and I'm adicted to it's aftertaste."

My go to pu-erh

"Second purchase of 2001 Basket Aged Ripe Pu-erh Tea from Yi Wu and I'm going to need to make a third order. It's my go to pu-erh tea. It's a dark, earthy, traditional tasting pu-erh."

"My new favourite Pu-erh. I found myself drinking it on special occasion days as a way to make the day feel magical from the very beginning."

Grandpa's delight

"EN: This tea won't leave you indifferent. Especially so if you enjoy wet cellar, earthy, woody, prunes, old clay furnace and characteristic Yiwu honey notes. Cha Qi - combined with warm nostalgic notes of childhood home will give you a strong calming effect. This tea is very old (wet piling alone adds about 30 years of aging itself and then +25 years on top of it) - so a quick rinse is a must. Important: 1) It's best for thermos / grandpa style - 7-8g per 1l (works best for me), add boiling water, top up from time to time. Other rewiewers noted that this tea is not very suitable for gong fu and I agree. It tasted it's best after a few hours in thermos. 2) If you're squeamish/grew up in a city/sensitive to mold/simply don't like wet cellar notes - this tea is probably not for you! For all wine cellar/willage vibe enjoyers - it's a must try that will warm your heart and soul.

"My first aged loose Pu erh experience. It's an epic tea. A bit smokey and with a bite but forgiving at the same time. I just love the earthy aged taste."
