Golden Honey Aroma is a Mid-March harvested black tea grown in the Ning'er area of Simao. It's an old varietal that is referred to as 老号 (lit. old type), which has been grown in this area by several families for a few decades, although the varietal is much older and is likely close to pure assamica.

The tea is sweet with honey, dried cherry and orchid notes. It is thick and juicy, with a hint of chocolatey maltiness, all wrapped up in a tea soup that has a long-lasting viscous mouthfeel. Your sense of smell will not be left out of the enjoyment, either, as the aroma of this tea is indeed very strong. Honey and dried fruit characters abound, making this tea more than worthy of its name, Golden Honey Aroma!

A delicious tea that is sure to delight and awaken the senses!

Strong, pungent flavour

"The spring 2026 of this tea I have found has a strong pungent flavour, which I can't quite put my finger on but I think the closest I could compare it to is the smell of coal burning. There is no accounting for taste but I can't imagine this would be desirable for anyone. I give 3 stars not less as I don't know if maybe it needs to be rested a bit, or maybe I am wrong and this is a flavour some seek in tea. For reference I have brewed it gong fu style with boiling water, a ratio of roughly 5g of tea to 120ml of water, ~15 second step times to start and increasing."

This doesn’t taste like a Yunnan Black Tea

"Summary: Unlike the description and other reviews I see here, this tea is much more heicha/pu-erh like than most Yunnan blacks/reds I’ve ordered here - it has black/red notes, but also has a medium-light fermented taste I’ve only seen in pu-erhs. I myself don’t go for pu-erhs or heichas much these days, though my cravings change over time. That being said, I give it a four because even if it is not my cup of tea, I think it’s certainly a “good” cup for people who are into it. The fermentation is not gross, but it’s not what I was expecting from reading the reviews and smelling the aroma. The actual flavor is woody-charcoal, fermentation with about an equal amount of floral-honey, and some minor maltiness and fruity notes (like mild cherry or fermented-plum). I wonder: Does anybody else taste this? I see many people describing malt, but I know from malt… this tea I got is actually kind of medium/light-bodied and medium/light-malt, but has a solidly medium-fermented character. Like a shu pu-erh that isn’t unbearable or aggressive with its malt. Has anyone else had this experience? I keep a detailed tea journal, and this is the first time my own writings *really* are out of touch with all of the other opinions out there, so I’d really like to know what’s going on with this one… I brew 7g/100mL at 212F - 10s wash (which I also drink 🤷‍♂️), then 10,15,20,25,30,45,60,90,120… And even under those conditions, I’m not getting such a thick broth, not particularly malty - but a pleasant floral, slightly fruity, but definitely fermented and woody brew… Is my batch defective, a different tea altogether, or is it always like this?"

Nice quality leaves. The mouth

"Nice quality leaves. The mouth is left satisfied with the sweetness of the brews, I like to keep the brewing time short at first. Great complexity and character development. I will definitely buy again."

Good tea but lost aroma in several moths

"I received '25 spring harvest in '25 October. I brewed it gongfu style with 5g/120ml density and short steepings (15s-20s-30s-etc. ). It was very nice, smooth, sweeet, chocolatey with some fruity/floral sidenotes. Typical dian hong taste but on the better side. Good buy for the price. Unfortunately it lost most of its aroma until '26 February. Now I have to use 7g instead of 5 to have some body of the tea but still have not much taste. This is very disappointing to me. I stored the tea on the same way as my other black teas (air-sealed glass holder) and never had such issue before. My other black teas are still good even after 2-3 years. So this is clearly issue of this tea not storage. So I suggest to buy the very latest harvest and for immediate consumption only."

Earthy, sweet, woodsy, honeyed

"Tastes like fall, like wet dry leaves on the forest floor with a syrupy honey sweetness. Absolutely wonderful. Bought a larger batch for daily drinking"
