We are proud to offer a Certified Organic Yellow Tea from Yunnan.  This tea was grown in the area of Simao and was harvested in Late-April.

This is a 2 leaf to 1 bud plucked Yellow Tea (1芽2叶黄茶) made from a 50/50 blend Yunkang #10, and Xue Ya #100 varietals growing at and altitude 1300 meters (4300 feet) on the southern slope Ma Wei Mountain (just west of Pu'Er City).  Fresh leaves from both varietals are picked and blended together before processing.  The blend of the two varietals gives a balanced complex taste and increases the number of steeps that the tea can be brewed.

The processing is similar to black tea with sun withering, rolling, oxidization, and finally drying.  The main difference between the Yellow tea and Black tea processing done by our organic tea growers is the sun withering stage and the oxidization stage are quite a bit shorter for the Yellow tea.  You will notice the dry leaf of the Yellow tea is tending to be more grey and less gold as compared to our Pure Bud Black Tea, and the brewed tea soup is more yellow-gold (as opposed to gold-orange) and the brewed leaves are more greenish.

Our Yunnan Yellow Tea is incredibly sweet and complex, with floral and chocolate notes and almost Dan Cong oolong-like taste and aroma!  This tea can be brewed 6 to 8 times gong fu style.  We recommend using 85-90C water and brewing gong fu style to gradually coax out the flavors and aromas while avoiding astringent flavors.

Our Yunnan Sourcing Certified Organic teas are certified organic by EcoCert SA and are certified organic to international standards (EcoCert is IFOAM accredited).**

Delicious

"Lovely tea, a nice sweet mellow scent similar to a white tea, but the flavor is a bit bolder, definitely will reorder"

"EXCELLENT!"

Excellent and rather unique.

"Very nice, the only other yellow tea I have tried is Huoshan Huangya (3 different types). I much prefer this though admittedly they are worlds apart. I think it is actually closer to some dianhong golden needle, but milder and with some kind of additional flavour I cannot really pin down, very unique, mellow, smooth, buttery and rich."

Aromatic

"Aromatic and very tasty tea. Definitely I will order it again"

"This tea brews similar to a green tea. Can get bitter if you don't brew it right. But good overall."

Great Value!

"This is really nice, especially at this price point! I went in with low expectations because of the low cost, and was blown away. It has an undertone of nutiness that reminds me of a nice long jing green tea. On top of that, there is sappy kind of denser/darker sweetness that reminds me of a nice red tea (reminds me of a nice qimen I once had). There is a slight astringency in the back of the mouth that is somehow still very smooth and the clarity very good, as is expected from this site. I definitely recommend this tea to anyonr who is curious, since you can get an entire 250g, which is about 35-50 sessions at 5-7g per session, for only $26!"

Fine floral fragrance tones, but also some bitterness

"The Certified Organic "Fancy Grade Yunnan Yellow Tea" has several strong, delicious, fragrant tones. However, it is also a bit bitter. I tried it at several temperatures and amounts of tea leaf, but it still had a bitter taste that always followed the initial excellent flavor tones. I also know some people like tea a little bit bitter, if so, this tea is perfect for you."
