Introducing the 2025 Peerless Gold Label, a small-batch blend built from rare, mature-tree leaf (picked in a natural, low-input environment), crafted first as mao cha, then wet-piled (wo dui) in a Menghai-area factory. Pressed into classic 357 g cakes with artwork by Benjamin Denkert, this is a balanced yet robust shou that layers dark-chocolate bitterness into a pungent, sweet aftertaste. The liquor is viscous and soupy, with tons of character from the first pour to the last.

This year we made two Peerless blends!

  • Gold Label: more dark-chocolate drive with a sweet after-finish.
  • Red Label: a touch less bitter, with a thick, sweet fruit counterpoint.
    Both are designed to deepen in complexity as they age.

"I absolutely loved the 2020 Peerless which is sold out now, I miss it a lot. Tried both Red and Gold label, and to my taste the Gold one is closer (at least in spirit!) to the original. "This is an absolute beast of a puerh. Incredibly intense cocoa flavor. A strong, non-harsh chocolate bitterness lingers in the throat for a long time. I’ve never had a puerh tea with such an intense flavor. The flavor profile is relatively simple—the cocoa and chocolate notes completely dominate everything else. The aroma isn't particularly standout either. If you love cocoa, dark chocolate, and consider yourself a true tea enthusiast, you absolutely have to try this tea!"

"Nice clean shou with an oily black coffee bitterness upfront that evolves to a rich sweetness that gives cola syrup vibes. Hints of camphor, pine resin, apple cider donuts. Autumn in a glass"

Thick and robust

"Received as a free gift for my order, thank you! The tea impresses with thick, full body from the first cup. There is dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted barley. It's very dry (in the sense of lack of sweetness), and I missed some sweet dried fruit notes. Maybe aging will improve the balance. Or you can try the suggestion to pair the tea with chocolate. There is some shrimp aroma of a fresh shu pu-erh in dry leaves, but it goes away with rinsing. Overall, I think it's a great tea."
