Wild Hei Cha from Yun Tai Mountains. This is the original An Hua tea varietal that has grown in the mountains of Gao Jia Shan and Yun Tai Shan for centuries (maybe longer). This is part of Gao Jia Shan's Wild Tea Series.

Hua Zhuan 花砖 is a unique An Hua style of tea that is based on Qian Liang Tea. It's a blend of grade 2 and 3 sized leaves (just like Qian Liang). It differs from Qian Liang tea in its shape only. It is different from Fu Brick in that it does not have golden flowers 金花. It is quite similar to "Hei Zhuan" 黑砖, but uses less coarse/large leaves in its blend (Hei Zhuan blend is the coarser). Keep in mind that the size/grade of leaves influences the taste, but it should not be equated with "quality". For example, although all Hua Zhuan are blended from a similar ratio of leaf grades/sizes, this offering (being from wild high altitude tea trees picked in spring), will outshine another Hua Zhuan that was (for example) harvested from plantation bushes during the second spring flush. Age is another factor, but we won't get into that!

Each Brick is 1 Kilogram.  If you order anything other than a whole brick you will get pieces.

Harvested in April 2012, pressed in August 2012

Region:  Gao Jia and Yun Tai Mountains, An Hua County of Hunan

We are also offering the "Hei Zhuan" 黑砖 from the same year and producer here!

Very Rewarding - Really Lovely !!!

"This and also the Gao Jia Shan Hei Zhuan both caught my eye and intrigued me so I ordered a 50 gram sample of each with my last order . Anyway here is my review of this tea the Hua Zhuan . To say that this tea is tightly compressed is somewhat of a major under statement !!! This would give a Xiaguan Iron Cake a run for it’s money any day ! After very carefully managing to remove enough thin pieces for a session I put them into my pure silver tea pot and gave them a 30 second rinse with boiling water . I then left them for five minutes to soften up a bit in the steam inside the pot . I then proceeded to brew - one minute infusions for the first five infusions , 45 seconds for the sixth , 55 seconds for the seventh ,, one minute twenty seconds for the eighth , one minute fifty seconds for the nineth and ten to fifth teen minutes for the tenth infusion - I told you that the compression was tight !!! How ever what a reward , this is quite a tea ! The complexity in the aroma and flavour profiles is amazing ! I found notes of butter , Demerara sugar , coffee , cream , butterscotch , mushroom , spice , yeasty notes , hints of citrus oil , very subtle notes of fruit and malt . On the final really long infusion all of these took a back seat and up front suddenly appeared lots of thick sweet hay - Amazing ! This tea had a very clean , fresh , quenching slightly syrupy mouthfeel that also caused my mouth to water after I’d swallowed . The Qi was very clean , focusing and uplifting but at the same time relaxing . The after taste is complex and continued to develop and last for hours after the session had finished . Amazing tea , very rewarding and really lovely !!! It’s very obvious that it’s wild grown and not plantation ! If you like Qiang Liang try a sample of this . Having said that it’s definitely it’s own thing ."
