This is a cake composed entirely of the "huang pian" (mature larger leaves) that were hand-plucked from the mao cha (loose leaf raw pu-erh) that composed our Spring 2020-2021 Jinggu productions.

These large leaves are entirely from wild arbor or ancient arbor tea trees and have a great deal of depth and flavor. They deliver a honey-like sweetness with a nice viscous lubricating mouth-feel. We've given this tea the name 春晓 which means "Spring Morning" because of its fresh but gentle character.

Delicious

"I really enjoyed this tea, it starts off a bit astringent but by the second and third brew it’s so sweet and creamy. It has a great mouthfeel and the aroma from the brew is amazing. 7. 5grams per 100ml and I’m getting around 10 steeps with close to full flavor, you can push it further if you want and still have subtle hints of that sweetness. All the negative reviews here are from earlier in the teas life, from my experience on trying this tea in 2026, being aged about 5 years, this tea is well worth the price. I’ll be buying two or three more cakes."

2025: Aging Changes Everything

"Aging has changed this tea OR I've just come to appreciate the subtle elements that were missed originally. Likely, it's a bit of both. I ordered this tea back in 2024 and broke into it. I consistently use about 6-8g and brewed it at 80c, 90c, and 100c multiple times. My original notes "it's a good daily drinker. Slight vegetal taste and slightly earthy / bitter depending on brewing temp. Overall, nothing profound. " WRONG A year later and this actually has become a daily drinker. The liquid has a thick mouthfeel with almost a sweet subtle aftertaste. I've contrasted it with other cakes such as the 2022 Raw Silver Impression. This one is just smooth easy good. 155ml with 7g of tea. I push it hard at 100c and it rewards me every time. I hit it with a very quick 3s wash and then start with a 15s brew and then push it by roughly 10 seconds every brew. Lesson learned. If you aren't happy with your cake, just wait. Time can do wonderful things."

Very thin

"On my second session. There is some butterscotch which is nice, and a smooth mouthfeel, also nice, but possibly what other reviewers are calling subtle, I am calling 'thin'. This came from a sampler; this is the first choice I am checking off to not reorder. It's not a bad tea, but it's not for me."

My daily

"This is my daily raw, I'm almost out of the 2019 version so restocked with this one. Compared to the 2019 version this has a cooling mouth sensation and is much clearer and cleaner which I like and dislike at the same time. It isnt as heavy as the 2019 one and as such does not have as much kick to the flavours - its more subtle, the flavours are better defined and less muddy than 2019. In terms of flavour profile it is very similar to 2019 version. All in all I prefer this one and I think it is an improvement over 2019, especially with the mouth cooling sensation which was not present in the 2019 one."

Very nice fresh and clear

"Very nice fresh and clear taste. Very subtle subdued bitterness in early brews that give place to a ripe grape like sweetness. Probably one of the easiest recomendations for anyone wondering what tea to get or starting out on their tea journey."

Enjoyable tea

"I didn't give it 5 as I'm fairly new to drinking these teas. I'm very much enjoying this tea. Sweet, slight peppery notes in the background, peach and sap. Gently astringent with some bitterness depending on brewing. The qi is calming and soothing, it very much takes me to sitting out in the forest on a clear quiet morning."

Great everyday-drinker

"This is a nice raw Pu-Erh for every day. It has a nice smooth taste with no bitterness at all."
