Entirely wild arbor tea from early spring! The tea leaves for this tea cake were picked from 20 to 60 years old tea trees growing wild in the Da Xue Shan (Big Snow Mountain) area of Mengku. Big Snow Mountain is a high altitude area that tops out at 2700 meters above sea level. The tea we used for this production is from an altitude of about 1800 meters on the southwest slope of Big Snow Mountain (west of Mengku town). Big Snow Mountain of Mengku, although having the same name as the Yong De Big Snow Mountain area, is, in fact, not the same and is quite distinct.

Teng Tiao "藤条茶" is a unique Assamica natural hybrid that grows in Mengku County (Lincang) and Jinggu (Puer/Simao) and has long spindly leaves. Despite growing in the same general area of Big Snow Mountain in Mengku, this tea has a unique look and taste. Compare with our 2017 Big Snow Mountain raw production available here.

Net Weight:  357 grams per cake (7 cakes per bamboo leaf tong)

it's a pickup

"7. 6g in a DHP 170ml zisha, rinse discarded. At first my water was not hot enough, I was impatient, lol, so the first two brews were weakish, but it firmed up nicely by the third one. Minty, bitter, dark chocolate. Very clean and smooth for its age. There is even a very nice sweet candy hui gan. There is more to the taste than just dark chocolate some of that special Assamica is coming through. The mouthfeel eventually changed from smooth to creamy. Ended the session by simmering the leaves in 350ml of water to have with milk and brown sugar. Great combo, the hard candy sweetness makes the nuttiness of the brown sugar more complex. I am grateful to YS crew for slipping this free sample into my parcel."

pleasant

"Tried in Jan 25, from a free sample. It was a very pleasant brew."

Very nice.

"There’s something about this one that keeps me coming back. It has some characteristics of a high end ripe - rich, some chocolate, some spice, when brewed hard. For me this one falls between a luxury and every day tea (leaning towards luxury). It’s hard to find a fault with it and the finish it long and clean. Most ripe drinkers would enjoy this and be glad they found it."

Simple, strong and lovely

"I get mossy buttery aromas. The taste has low complexity but this is a tea I want to go back to every day, I cant explain why i like it so much. The cake is compressed more tightly than I typically like but this is such a strong tea so perhaps packing with less pressure would release too much, too quickly in the brew, but it does make it difficult to pry the leaves off without breaking them."
