Pure Gold Tips expertly processed to enhance and preserve the hairy fuzz on these tiny little buds. Tong Mu Guan Village near Wu Yi in Fujian is the most famous place in China for the cultivation of Jin Jun Mei and this year's harvest (April) is among the best in recent memory.

The taste of the tea is malty, with hints of caramelized sugar and smoke. There is a viscous thickness to the tea soup and a sweetness, both of which linger in the mouth and throat after drinking.

We recommend using 85-90C water to brew this delicate and special Jin Jun Mei.

Sweet Caramel Liqueur

"I am fairly new to Jin Jun Mei and this is now one of my daily drinkers. Very smooth, caramel-y, and a beautiful amber liqueur. Highly recommend. I just bought an additional 250g of it!"

Sweet caramel to smoky to lighter sweetness

"Excellent tea. The first steep after a wash showed the caramel malt. The smoky flavor present in steeps 2-5. Steep 6 and longer backed down to a lighter caramel, sweet bread finish. Full mouth feel all along. Love it. If you enjoy Chinese black tea, I highly recommend trying the Jin Jun Mei Black Tea Sampler that is offered by these folks. I am having a blast trying and comparing the different Jin Jun Mei's. This one might be my favorite (so far!)."

Liquid Caramel

"Pure Gold Tips tastes like liquid caramel. I use half n half and Truvia. Tong Mu Guan Village is a special place for teas and this one has me hooked. I just bought my 2nd order in fear it may sell out soon."

A robust tea that holds up to many steeps

"Brewing at: 95C Brewing with: 4. 5g leaf Steep Times: 30 sec, 30 sec, 30 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, continuing Very heavy malt taste in the first steep that backs away with subsequent steeps to reveal the mild hint of smoke. An almost chocolatey taste. The tea teases you as it begins to weaken, then you add to the steep time and it renews itself. I've brewed this tea in a western style and made a good mug of tea from 2g of leaf or I've had 4g of leaf carry me an entire morning. It's forgiving to brew, has a lot of flavor, and is a great way to develop brewing technique. A very tasty tea that is certainly worth its asking price."

Excellent

"A good spread of notes. Caraml, honeycomb, vanilla, grapeskin, shortbread, cherry tart, soft oak and more of a robust malt note that I normally get in JJM. Thick oily mouthfeel and a nice sweet aftertaste."

Q&A

For a gongfu style preparation, what would you recommend for: - grams of leaves per grams of water? - rinse before first infusion? At what temperature and for how long? - temperature and time for each infusion?
Water temperature should be close to 90C Use 5-6 grams of black tea per 100ml of volume. Brief 10 second wash... then 10s, 15s, 20s, 30s, 45s, and then maybe a minute each time until it's brewed out. I prefer to gradually coax out the subtle flavors.

6 grams per 100ml brewing device. 85-90C water, ultra short steeps for the first 4 steeps.
