Purple Zhu Ni "Pear-Shaped" Yixing Teapot by Jin Jia Qi
This teapot is made from 紫朱泥 (zǐ zhū ní), a zhu ni-family clay admired for its deep purplish-red color and high-fired density. Compared to brighter orange-red zhu ni, 紫朱泥 often presents a more mature, understated tone, while retaining the crisp, lively brewing character that zhu ni clays are loved for.
In the hand, the pot feels exceptionally balanced: a compact body with smooth, deliberate curves, finished in a clean minimal style that highlights the clay itself. The surface has a soft, natural sheen that will gradually develop more depth and glow with regular use.
Purple Zhu Ni 紫朱泥 is especially valued for:
-
Enhancing fragrance and high notes
-
Producing a cleaner, brighter profile
-
Keeping infusions focused and crisp
-
Excellent for teas where clarity matters
This makes it an ideal teapot for drinkers who love floral, fruity, or mineral aromatics, and who prefer a cup that is lifted and articulate rather than heavy and muted.
Best for
-
Taiwanese high mountain oolong
-
Tie Guan Yin (green / modern styles)
-
Dan Cong (for fragrance separation)
-
Light–medium roast Wuyi Rock oolongs (when you want aroma preserved)
-
Young / aromatic sheng pu-erh
Less ideal for
-
Most ripe pu-erh, where more porous/thicker clays often give better body and softness
About Jin Jia Qi (金家棋)
Jin Jia Qi: a young ceramic artist, born into a family with a long tradition in the ceramic arts. Influenced by art from an early age, he developed a strong interest in teapot making.
