This ripe cake is pressed from a wet pile batch made entirely from Meng Song area (Menghai County) tea leaves harvested in 2018 and wet piled in late 2018!

Meng Song ripe tea has a very potent cha qi, with a thick tea soup, dark chocolate like bitterness and fruity sweetness. Pure Meng Song ripe tea is relatively rare. It has a unique bitter-sweet character with a fast hui gan and a touch of licorice sweet after-taste.

For those of you who purchase this tea during the year of 2019 expect that there will be some wet pile taste throughout 2019, but will fade gradually as the tea ages.  Remember pu-erh increases in palatability and complexity with age!  In Chinese we refer to this as 越陈越香.

We are also offering three other Menghai area ripe teas with a similar wrapper (Meng SongHe Kai VillageBa Da, and Bu Lang Mountain).

250 Grams per Cake (7 cakes per bamboo leaf tong)

old wood, stone fruit, caramel and liquorice

"Brewing: 6g/100ml, 100°C, flash rinse, 15s, +5s. Warmed-up dry leaves smell of wood, stone fruit and cocoa. When wet, bread notes appear. The liquor tastes of old wood, stone fruit, caramel and liquorice - earthy and muddy, but good. Lasts for 8-10 steeps."

Feel good tea

"I don’t drink ripes that often and bought this as a gift for my partner. The Qi of this tea is undeniable and hits immediately with a feel good rush which is extremely relaxing. The profile of this tea is very straight forward earthy/fungi/creamy/bitter such that you might think it’s a little simple on the palate. This tea would probably appeal more to people who enjoy unsweetened treats in the bitter/earthy spectrum as I do. The tea has a strong aroma and a thick, lubricating mouthfeel. This tea is really great now and will be completely awesome in a few years I bet!"

Straight profile

"If you want straight bitter, chocolate, earthy, fungus so w/o fruity, sweet and camphor tastes this is a good choice. I'd recommend a little more leaf than usual for this one."

Wonderfully balanced tea

"I have only enjoyed one session thus far with this tea and I am very impressed. It's smell is rich of earth and fungus and the taste is smooth and creamy. The taste is gentle with hints of deep fruitiness while also delivering qualities that I can only describe as caramelized leather. It is delicious. The Qi is clearing and very clean. Brings a briskness and clarity with it. I recommend."
