Elephant Mountain is a small Dai minority village community in Menghai County with a Dai Temple of some renown.  It's also a tea growing area and as such has always commanded the imagination of people in the area.  Being a blend of many different ripe wet pile batches there may or may not be some tea from Elephant Mountain in there somewhere!  Another "once in a blue moon" premium production from Da Yi, which was last produced exactly 10 years ago in 2005.  The 2005 production and this one are the same recipe, the 2005 production is a modern ripe classic, sought after, and commanding a very high price.

The Elephant is Stubborn

"I really enjoy this tea. I admit, i bought this tea because i was wanting to try some of Menghai's offerings and this cake was priced right (and Scott's review, of course). At first i was not too pleased, but as i experimented with the tea i found that you must 'hit' this tea hard in order to open it up and receive the unique flavor this tea has to offer. If you enjoy your tea on the mild side, i believe you could do short steeps and get many, many mild, tasty cups of tea. I prefer a bolder cup, so finally i figured out you 'must' use 'right at boiling' water to open this tea up. I was amazed at the delicious , unique flavor it gave me. Wow, Scott is absolutely right, this is a premium production from Da Yi and i am taken by it's unique flavor profile! I am reluctant to put a label on the unique flavor i am getting from this tea, but it is delicious and i highly recommend this tea to any shou tea lover. Another reason i am reluctant to put a label to the flavor is everybody will probably come up with their own adjectives, so i will leave it at that. As mentioned above, i am betting this tea will also become a classic as the 2005 version did. It is also on sale at this time so please do yourself a favor and buy some of this tea."
