Tian Fu Xiang was a small Menghai Tea factory that started in the early-2000s. Tian Fu Xiang was started by Zhang Li Xiang who worked for the Menghai Tea Factory in the late 80's and 90's. He brought his knowledge of wet piling with him when he started Tian Fu Xiang and as such the Tian Fu Xiang ripe teas are quite excellent, displaying Menghai-like complexity and high aroma.

The 2004 brick we offer here is a wrapperless ripe brick with a medium-tight level of compression. The leaf grade is typical for a brick and reminds me of a Da Yi 7562 recipe. The tea brews up a very clear and bright near-burgundy hued tea soup. The aroma is that of camphor wood and night blooming flower nectar. The taste is thick but not overpowering, medium viscosity, aged "chen xiang" aroma and taste is present and there is a sweet fruitiness and fast hui gan.

We recommend brewing with 100C water and using a silver or clay teapot. This tea needs the heat to unfold and open up. We also recommend prying off on thin sheets instead of large blocky chunks that might be a bit reluctant to come apart even with the hottest water.

Brownie Vader!

"Not only is this dark buddy a premiere for me also the fact that I stabbed myself while trying to breaking that brick apart with my Pu-erh knife is one too. But that aside the recipe of this Shou is a very deliciously thick and well composed one. Already it's steaming bouquet exhales such a massive amount of nuances starting with cherry cake, apricot jam, dark fresh bread followed by an hazel nutty note further scenting dark chocolate a bit like a brownie and cookies with a final hint of gingerbread. Its texture is so silky soft with such a heady profile to it. This Shou isn't Autumn leaf like or earthy at all but even if I consider that he is definitely more a sweet one is this sweetness not exaggerated in any way. I noticed that some do not like if Shou's are too sweet and this isn't the case. In fact this little Darth Vader is one of the nicest and well composed Shou I got in my stock. This is a good Shou for starters and others who like it sometimes with a little less of a punch! Everything within this fellow is nicely sweet and dark silky soft like within the aroma. Taste-wise you are going to discover brownies, chocolate cookies and hints of gingerbread but also a dark cherry cake variation, dark steaming bread but also a bit of strawberries covered in dark chocolate. This might sound quite sweet but imagine it more like a very natural and well placed version of all this sweet stuff. Within the aftertaste there is something quite spicy minty to it which reminds me a bit of After Eight. This buddy is not getting totally pitch-black and also isn't a massive giver but you can definitely enjoy it for at least 6-7 steepings. But he is definitely a warming and relaxing fellow which is perfect for cozy Winter nights. If I could rate it with half points I would give this fellow a well deserved 4 1/2!
