Shou Mei (寿眉) is a style of White Tea that is grown in the Fuding area of Fujian province of China. The tea is the same varietal that is used to make Bai Hao Yin Zhen (Silver Needles) and Bai Mu Dan (White Peony), but Shou Mei is (less tippy) a 2 or 3 leaf to 1 bud ratio.  The processing style also allows for more oxidation through natural air drying.

This Shou Mei was aged as a loose leaf tea for 3 years in Fuding and then for 2 years in Kunming before being pressed into a cake.  The result is a lightly aged, but very clean Shou Mei that brews up an incredibly rich orange hued tea soup. The taste is very sweet with notes of honey, and dried fruit.  Incredibly viscous and smooth, with no real astringency at all (even at higher temperatures).  This is a tea that can be enjoyed fully right now.  Further aging would be beneficial but is not at all needed.

A good everyday drinker

"Lovely tea cake. Good for a relaxing gongfu session. No frills, just nice and reliable. If you get a chance, definitely worth a try."

This was a really nice

"This was a really nice aged white tea"

Timothy S. (4/5)

a tea for the middle

"I was very curious to try an aged white. the tea varietal reminds me of some black tea varietals, having the slightly sour astringency aftertaste of a black. I like this tea with a lot of leaves in a gaiwan, starting slow and cool water, moving towards a full rolling boil flash steeping pour after 6 steepings or so. It interestingly reminded me a bit too of a smoky oolong, after several steepings. I like this tea. my husband doesn’t like white tea but he enjoyed this when I brewed it strong. you can really push it and it stays soft and mellow, even on darker steepings. It’s kind of a middle ground tea. touches notes you might expect from many different kinds of tea but holds its own neutral territory. I’m not sure how to describe flavor… It’s soft and sweet and sour, but a good sour if that makes sense. the feeling I get from this tea is uplifted calm. this is a tea for days when you have a good cry, springtime nostalgia, or on a day that you really need caffeine but you want to be able to take a nap later because you were up late cramming for exams… this is a tea rich with l-theanine, so it provides a deep calm with the caffeine. in my opinion anyway."

better than expected

"bought this a while ago, at first I thought it was alright, a little blanc, but after brewing it at a higher temp, I was so impressed. so happy I got it and will definitely purchase another."

Faiza (5/5)

Good tea, great value.

"Got it for free with the code. But even without the code its cheap so definitely worth picking up. It's some of my first white tea, brewed it at 95C and it doesn't taste that much but it's clean and pleasant. I will have no problem finishing this cake."

Pierrick C. (5/5)

Best quality and great value

"Awesome tea’s, and a lot more than I would’ve thought I was buying. Shipping is great, tracking was clear and arrived well within the set time for expedited shipping. Will order again!"

Roy N. (5/5)

Fantastic, especially for the price

"Lovely aged shoumei. Good fragrance, body, sweetness. Has that aged white herby note that I love."

Andrew A. (5/5)

Solid aged white tea

"The tea was really good, but not memorable, just a typical pressed white tea taste. I will give it a few more tries, to get more interesting flavors from this tea."

Adam S. (4/5)

Great Value

"This one is a heck of a deal. Even better since I grabbed it as a freebie. This one does not have a lot of those aged white herbal notes, but it is incredibly clean, sweet, with a touch of petrichor. Thick with enduring huigan, it's a very very solid cake for under thirty bucks. Is it the most special thing you'll drink this week? No, but it's a tea I'd be happy with any day of the week."
