2016 Menghai "Aged Aroma" Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake
"Yue Chen Yue Xiang" means "The Older, the More Aromatic". This is the first thing that I ever learned about Pu-erh tea. In 1996 I went to the candies and tea market behind the Kunhu Fandian in Kunming just north-north-west of railway station. It was here that I first saw Pu-erh tea (and drank some too). An old man there explained to my Japanese friend (who spoke both Chinese and English) the concept of "Yue Chen Yue Xiang". Needless to say it made a very strong impression on me.
In 2004, after selling all my belongings in Oregon and moving to China I was trolling the Jin Shi tea market in Kunming for teas and came across the year 2000 version of this cake, which I bought a tong of. Wish I still had some today!
