This is a new pressing of 2017 harvested and early 2018 wet piled tea leaves from Mengku in Lincang.  The wet piling was done is Mengku area using spring water.  This is an average of Grade 3 tea leaves (read our short article here on leaf grade/size), giving this a nice balanced profile.

The taste is earthy, sweet, tobacco, and fruit.  Very nice robust tea that will improve dramatically in the next few years as it loses it's wet pile taste.

Cha Nong Hao Brand (lit. Tea Farmer Brand 茶农号) is a small project of Ms. Guo, a Yunnan local tea aficionado.  She's been involved in the Pu-erh tea world for many years but is finally doing her own small batch pressings of ripe and raw pu-erh teas that she has sourced through her many travels in the tea mountains of Yunnan!

It's ok.

"got this cake free with another purchase. Tried it in Feb 2025. It's pleasant, but nothing spectacular. A little sweetness and bitterness. . . Maybe needs more time."

changed my mind on this one.

"Enjoying this - nothing spectacular, but it has a lovely sweetness at the end. A very pleasant every day tea."

Not the most nuanced tea

"Not the most nuanced tea but a solid shou none the less. Medium body very smooth. Not clean but not to bold either. This had a medium finish. Slightly dry mouth feel but not puckering. I very nice tea overall."

Good tea for the price

"This is a decent tea for the price - it's certainly nothing special, but better than most similarly priced teas. I usually drink cheaper Dayi Shu, which is close to this price, and that is better than this - cleaner, smoother, more interesting. This tea has a much more fermented taste, a strong bit of smoke, and is generally pretty unsubtle. But again, for the price it's not bad at all."

Excellent Budget Ripe!

"Excellent ripe, also a freebie. Tastes of camphor with a bit of smoke. Sweet finish."

Perfect look, average taste

"This cake looks perfect. No dust, homogeneous leaves, perfect. But smell has something strange inside. There is an earth plus smoke and bit of "disinfection". Taste is more earthy and smoke is more obvious. It is a common fact that smoking aroma is used to cover problems in taste or problems in manufacturing. Sometimes it is nice to have light smoke/tabbaco aftertaste, but here it is just too much of it. From my point of view: YS offers better shou pu-erh cakes, this one is just average with strange aftertaste"

Very good

"Very nice pu erh! My choice for every day morning tea!"

Kolja (5/5)

Good but not too complex

"A nice and easy daily drinker that does not have a lot of complexity, but it packs a lot of energy! has a nice medium to thick mouthfeel, but not too thick. I think it will get better and better as it ages."

Aroma and taste so good

"Love this tender tea and have been taking some cakes for the future."

Unique Flavor Profile

"This is my first time ordering a cake and I really wanted to try a ripe tea which after brewing I was very pleased with. The tea is exactly as described with being earthy, tobacco like, and undertones of sweetness. I do not have a ton of experience with it, but I was super happy with the flavor profiling and am excited to try more."
