Yi Pin Tang is a brand and tea factory in Menghai town in Xishuangbanna.  They specialize in Ripe Pu-erh and their wet piling process is overseen by Mr. Xu.  Mr. Xu started his 15 year career with Menghai tea factory in the late 1980's, during which time he mastered the wet piling "wo dui" process.

This cake was pressed in 2007, from tea wet piled in 2006.  The tea cakes were aged in Kunming until now.  This is a good example of a mature ripe that needs no further aging.  It's very thick, sweet and rich in taste and brews up 10+ infusions easily when brewed gong fu style.

Good PuErh with age

2007 YiPinTang "Yi Pin Puer" Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake

"I am new to pu-erh tea, not entirely sure yet what makes a good pu-erh good, or a bad pu-erh bad. I can say that this is one of the best of the ones I have tried so far. It is wonderfully complex, the earthiness that I like about pu-erh being not at all overpowering but rather balanced by the rest of the flavors of the tea. Not only will I be ordering this one again, but am so looking forward to trying other teas by Yunnan Sourcing."

Yi Pin Puer

"It's tasty and really mellow. It has a fermented, earthy kind of taste but it's really subdued and it has an underlying sweet fruitiness. The flavor isn't too strong though, and it doesn't last me as many gongfu steeps as stated. I brewed it straight in the cup once and that was nice."
