This expertly fermented black tea was crafted using a wild tree purple leaf varietal from the Yong De "Da Xue Shan" (lit. Big Snow Mountain) area of Lincang prefecture. This wild tree varietal grows wild in the mountains at an altitude of 2100-2300 meters.

Ye Sheng "野生“ varietal aka "Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze var. assamica (J. Masters) Kitam." is a primeval varietal that pre-dates Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica and is a naturally occurring non-hybridized varietal. Its potency in cha qi arises from its unadulterated nature. It is naturally bug repellent and grows wild in the forests of Yunnan at an altitude of 1600-2200 meters.

A very lightly wilted and processed tea, the green in the leaves is still present and the tea soup is a golden yellow color, much different from the Dehong Wild tree black tea that we also offer. There is a hint of fruit, chocolate and barrel aged rum in the taste and aroma. An exquisite experience!

An incredibly rare tea, only 70 kilograms in total production!

Big surprise - impresive tea

"My first purple black tea. I was very surprised by its complex taste. Firstly, it has a sweet and fruity flavor but gets a bit spicy, too. I will purchase it again."

Good tea at an appropriate price point

"Tasting notes: various taste aspects reminiscent of red teas. Is sensitive to water - when brewed with suboptimal water is very flat. Brewing parameters: 5g/100ml, 90C, 20s->+5s"

Very interesting tea.

"Bought this out of curiosity. First time trying purple tea. As you open the bag it may strike you as a very aromatic tea, and it is in a way, but it’s not the kind of tea that leaves a lovely sweet smell in your cup, it leaves it in your mouth! There is a reminiscent aroma of traditional Hong Cha, but it’s far more complex since it’s very fruity, mellow, spicy and sweet. It reminded me of Dan Cong tea with a hint of Oriental Beauty. No bitterness and almost imperceptible astringency. Calming Cha Qi and long lasting aroma in the mouth."

I bought 3 or 4

"I bought 3 or 4 purple teas. 2 I liked a lot. 1 was okay. This one though was my least favorite of them."
