This ripe cake is pressed from a wet pile batch made entirely from Meng Song area (Menghai County) tea leaves harvested in 2023 and wet piled in late 2023!

Meng Song ripe tea has a very potent cha qi, with a thick tea soup, dark chocolate like bitterness and fruity sweetness. Pure Meng Song ripe tea is relatively rare. It has a unique bitter-sweet character with a fast hui gan and a touch of licorice sweet after-taste.

For those of you who purchase this tea during the year of 2024 expect that there will be some wet pile taste throughout 2024, but will fade gradually as the tea ages. Remember that pu-erh increases in palatability and complexity with age! In Chinese we refer to this as 越陈越香.

My First Tea

"The first pu-erh tea cake I have ever purchased, and probably the first time I’ve purchased tea outside of the bag/bottle form. I plan on aging it for 3 years before I try it to mature its flavor. I also love the quality of the art on the wrapper, and how deep and woody the leaves smell through it. There’s a quality in its weight and how well packed together it is. I look forward to enjoying it when the time comes."

"I am new to Chinese teas and I ordered this in a sampler. It smells and tastes like seaweed or fish. I will age it and see what happens. I should mention I literally tore open the package and immediately brewed a small pot. I did not let it rest at all. If it's anything like cigars, you have to let it mellow out after delivery for a few weeks, or I suppose in this case, years. Good mouthfeel and some of the fishiness goes away after a couple of brews. I'll circle back in a year and tell you how it's going."

Great ripe!

"This is a greag tea. Hits hard on aroma, flavor and texture. Almond, dark chocolate, mushroom, woody, creamy, warming cha qi. Tastes better than other ripes I've tasted that 2x the price, so also a nice value for such a rare tea. Right now it's very fresh, but I bet in a year it will get even better!"
