Feng Yun is a blend of teas from three distinctly different areas of southern Yunnan.  This blend is the the lighter of the three in taste. It sports a strong aroma, with a balanced astringency and bitterness. The mouth feeling is full and cooling. The tea can be infused 10 or more times. The brewed leaves differ in size and thickness attesting to their varied origin.

Stone pressed in the traditional manner and dried with a low temperature drying process. Each cake is individually wrapped in Dai minority hand-crafted paper and then meticulously packed into bamboo leaf tongs for collection and long-term storage.

The Dai ethnic group lives exclusively in Yunnan province, residing primarily in the Xishuangbanna Autonomous Prefecture. Dai villages tend to be built in low-lying areas beside mountains.  Streams or rivers flow in front of them and the mountains behind are covered in thick forest.  Dai houses are constructed on elevated wooden poles.  The mountains surrounding the villages are all covered in tea trees, which are normally picked by unmarried young girls.

400 grams per cake (7 cakes per bamboo leaf tong).

Lots of character

"This turned out a pleasurable surprise. Without leaf origins nor harvest season explicitly named, I wasn't sure what to expect of the Feng Yun blend and went ahead to drink it before watching Scott's video. The body was thick, yet smooth with both bitterness and astringency in moderate measure. Yet, sweetness made itself felt too, and the 8gm I brewed went many steeps. It was part of a sampler pack i'd bought and I may just have to pick up a whole cake now."

Unique!

"As other reviewers have found, this starts off smoky, follows with a grassiness, and develops a plumskin flavor, but this is not all - during the plumskin phase (6-7th steeping) a raw almond flavor also develops creating a quite complex and unusual sheng."

Unique

"This one is really unique. It starts out a bit rigid and mineralogy with an intense aroma of wet clay. Took me a moment but I’m a potter and the odor is uncanny wet earth, clay right up front. On the palate it’s crisp and herbaceous with some wooden flavor. It softens up quickly and shows some slightly tart fruit notes on the palate with mid to later steeps, turning to dried apricots around steep 4-6. The aroma is more balanced in my last steeps with much less of the clay and more mineral, wood and herbal aroma. Still crisp on the palate with a touch more bitterness but still fading to a wonderful apricot aftertaste. I don’t get all the sweetness that scott talks about, it’s rather drying with tannin but it’s got plenty of body. Overall, very interesting. Smooth and elegant structure, and super minerally with a fruit finish. Long lasting. Not my favorite for style, but unique and good quality."

Three parts sonata

"At the beginning a bit smoky, in the middle grassy for a while, at the end (long end) fruity (plum, peach) and sweet. Very smooth from the beginning. After a long and heavy day reminds me on sonata, which warms you up inside and calms you down at the same time."

Lightly Aged and Complex!

"This was a cake I had overlooked for several years because I was scared by the lower price. Finally picked up a sample and was extremely pleased with the complexity and longevity of this tea. Very unique flavor and aroma profiles due to being blend of different teas! I am getting a couple of cakes for aging."
